My list for baby #4

Since I see so many posts on whats needed for baby and all that, I thought I'd share my list in case anyone is interested in what I think, as a mother of 3 expecting #4, is essential.  If you don't care, thats cool too.  LOL  I got rid of all my baby things 6mths ago since we were not having any more (surprise!!), so we are really starting over from scratch.

7-10 outfits in NB, 0-3m, 3-6m (each and right off the bat because some babies grow FAST!)

Moby-carrier is essential with more than 1 child or if you have an active lifestyle

Crib-We have always used a bassinet, but are just putting the crib up in our room this time

Bouncy seat-you need EITHER bouncy seat or swing.  BOTH IS NOT NECESSARY!

Pump-as I EBF

6ish bottles-I take baby everywhere, so these are really a "just in case"

2 Crib Sheets

2 good blankets (I swipe at least 2 blankets from the hospital for swaddling-they let you do this, I'm not a thief)

3-5 Swaddle Me wraps

3-5 Sleep Sacks

Monitor-I only get the ones that detect the motion and noise.  I figure, if I'm asleep, I really don't need video.

Changing Table/Dresser

Glider

Car Seat + 2 bases

Entertainer-may get this after she is born, as she won't use it for a few months anyways.

If you are wondering, I left out a stroller.  I baby wear and my older boys walk.  I find this to be MUCH easier than trying to maneuver a stroller around.  Also, I'm short (5'3") and my torso is too small for a boppy.  It's pretty much useless for me.  I put some toys on the floor and prop baby up with a rolled up blanket and BAM!  No need for play mat either.

I completely understand the desire to buy every little thing baby related, but for me, I'd rather buy the important stuff I will actually use and spend my money on other things.  But this post in no way is advising anyone to NOT buy something, it's just what I feel is necessary after having 3 other babies.  Feel free to buy whatever you want or use this post as an "essentials" list.  It's up to you.

  • I just used the bouncy seat from room to room.  My 1st hated the swing, so we never used it again for either of the other 2.  But, eh, different people have different ways of doing stuff.

tks for posting this!! im on baby # 4 as well but starting all over as my kids are 9,11,12 and this baby is a total surprise so im at a loss as to what babies need anymore. I got the bassinet today, the pack and go play yard two days ago :) but I travel a lot and spend time in hotels so that's going to be necessary for me and was on sale for 50... money well spent I think.  and I really want to get away with the bare minimum as this is deff my last one

I got a graco duo 2in1 swing, where the seat pops out and becomes a bouncy chair. Totally love it

I also got the graco blossom 4in1 high chair for DS1, this high chair actually comes apart and can accommodate two kids who are at different stages. If you plan on having two kids, this is a great buy. I also love that its on wheels.

@smpeachey - I loved my Moby the last time around, but I found that once DS hit 15 or so pounds, it didn't work so well just because the fabric stretched out as he was in there. Is the K'tan a stretchy, jersey type fabric like the Moby? Or is it more like a non-stretchy woven wrap? I like the idea of a woven wrap, but the ones I looked at last time were crazy expensive.

Edited my post, its a graco duo 2in1. We ended up using the bouncy seat far longer then the swing, and the seat is really stable. Its kind if sunken so he can't throw his weight to get out. I used it to contain him while i get a shower till he was almost 1

  • graco duo 2in1 got I will be on the lookout for that thank you
  • I definitely recommend a swing too. My DD never liked her bouncy chair.

Another plus is the swing is powered. We had two swings (one borrowed) which we used ALOT. The battery powered one would die far too often. Powered is so much better!

I know this isn't my question, but just wanted to share.
I have no experience with the moby, but I don't think I'd like ask the wrapping. I have 2 ktan and love. Love them! I have the original and yes its stretchy, but I don't find it too stretchy. Once it stretches out a bit, I'll wash and it shrinks back up.
I also have the breeze, which has less stretch. The beauty of the breeze if that you can wear it two ways, with the mesh in the front for summer months, or the jersey in the front for cooler months. Because it's got mesh, it's far less stretchy.
One thing with the ktan, I found that I had to order a size down in the original, instead of buying the recommended size it shows you. With the breeze, I had to order the recommend size that they show you.
I love them both, and still wear both with my 17.5 lb 1 year old.
I have a maya wrap, and an ergo and neither get as much use as my ktan.
In fact, my husband prefers the ktan over anything else. It's easy for him to put on, and it really distributes the weight even. I don't even feel like I'm baby wearing with it.

    Hope that helps.

Hmm, I have both the Moby and the Ergo (love them both!), but I'm thinking maybe I need to add a K'tan to my collection?!

Love the list. This is also my fourth baby but I feel I used the swing and bouncy seat about equally. @lavet22 have you seen the new ones that do both (swing/bouncy seat)?
  • This list covered basically everything we found useful with DD! Thanks for posting!
  • I agree on the k'tan and a swing that plugs in. My DD didn't love the bouncy seat but went through a few early months when she would only nap in the swing. She would fall asleep on her own and I think it helped her learn to do that in her crib eventually. It was a life saver. Every baby is different though, so who knows if this one will like the swing at all.

I have! Since we got rid of everything, I'm considering buying the combo this go round. I had such luck with the bouncy that I may just stick to that.. I really have no idea. Lol

  • Baby #4 for me too, and we also got rid of most of our baby equipment. I'm having the hardest time trying to decide between bouncy or swing. I don't think we'll be dropping the cash for the combo swing/bouncer either. We need a new pack n play and car seat as well.
