Experience with kiinde breastfeeding kit?

https://www.amazon.com/Kiinde-TG-N-001-NA-Twist-Breastfeeding-Gift/dp/B00CXTWJAA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1389670570&sr=8-3&keywords=kiinde I saw this reviewed on pregnant chicken and it seems like a genius idea.... Pump, store, heat, feed right from the same container. I'm a FTM though and so I have no idea if it would be really useful or not, or just another gadget that might not get used? Any STMs or anyone who has used this have any thoughts? Here is the review from pregnant chicken: https://www.pregnantchicken.com/pregnant-chicken-blog/2014/1/8/round-up-issue-12-january-2014

Re: Experience with kiinde breastfeeding kit?

  • I saw it. It looks cool but I feel like the inserts would get very expensive.

  • I haven't used it, but I have a friend that ONLY uses the Kiinde. She said it is very easy to use and durable. The bags are expensive though.

  • I am wondering if you can use the heating element to heat up breast milk? I saw it the other day, too, but I read you should only use water to heat up breast milk? Ftm, no idea.

  • Well here's my concerns: I had a lipase issue so milk had to be frozen ASAP or scalded. I'm also worried about the air bubble the huge screw on lid would cause, as air is the enemy of all nutrients. Then do you reuse just the lids? The bags are expensive! It's going to get very costly. Then there is the added expense of ordering the bags and making sure you have a stock pile so you don't run out, these wouldn't be available locally where I live. This is defiantly not a good product if you plan to have a large stash. I had a very large stash and these won't exactly freeze flat. I figure I spent $800 on 1 year of BF, and we've been BF for going on 20 months now. We'll be switching to up-n-up bags this time as they are supposed to be generic for Lansinoh and half the price.
  • I registered for it cause it looks cool I mostly like the storage bags ans the rack it comes with looks safer for diaper bag travel

@KatieGummow The heating part has circulating water, so it should be safe?

I just added it to my registry. Looks super convienient, minus the cost of bags. But any bags would cost, so I'll take convenience. The bottles and nipples look really good too, and I have no idea what to do as far as bottles so it's as good an option as any for me. I added an extra freezing rack for taking to work, since no one uses the freezer.

  • FTM so no personal experience but I have a friend who has two kids and loves the Kiinde system. I considered it- the screw on cap is awesome, IMO and it wouldn't be hard to squeeze all the air out- but since it would get pretty expensive and I'd like to have a good sized stash I'll probably go a different way. Our Buy Buy Baby has them in store.

  • FTM so no experience but the reviews were so good on multiple sites, I decided to register for it a while ago. I'm all about convenience, especially when I return to work.

    Good observation!  You're so smart.

  • I am registering for these! I am really excited about them.. the amazon reviews are amazing and I'm going back to work at 8 weeks and I love how this is so perfect for pumping. Also, you can use 20% off BBB coupons for the bags! So it makes them a lot more affordable.

I'm just praying I don't have breastfeeding/pumping issues because then I'd have to return it all.

  • This looks awesome. Wouldn't you save on cost of bottles, too? And basically be mostly washing nipples only?

The bags are disposable so it is a reoccurring cost, but on Amazon it is $17 (i think) for 40 bags.  So not too unreasonable, I just registered for like 4 packs of them :)

  • Just logged back in now and missed the zulilly deal, drat! I have registered for the kit and extra packs of bags. I agree they are pricey, but after reading reviews where people talk about the amount of breast milk they've spilled due to transferring from one container to another, it starts to seem more reasonable!

  • Finally got a chance to look at it. Looks nice! It's $60 on zulily so I'll have to keep an eye out. I think it would make my sitters life easier.
  • This makes sense. It's all new to me but when thinking about the whole process- pump into bottle, pour into bag, freeze, defrost, back into a bottle, eat, clean bottles, repeat.... This just really seems like it would streamline it all. A little worried about freezer space and if the LO will be easy and take that type of bottle. (Since many moms mention having to try multiple types of bottles) I think it's worth a try for the convenience.

  • Yea, the "regular" way is fine, I've personally never had any problems, but this definitely looks much easier and more convenient. I'll have to keep an eye on zulily.

I love love love the Kiinde System. When LO starts eating food I can use the same storage bags. Super easy and convenient to use. I would probably not spend the extra money on the warmer. It's great but $$$.
  • So now that I've used mine I can speak to it better. It's a great system. We haven't used the bottles themselves much because I've been home, so what little bottle feeding she gets is mostly what's been pumped that day. I don't pump into the bags because I average 2-3 oz per breast per pumping session, and I was wasting bags. So I pump into bottles and pour into the bags to freeze.

I think this is a genius system for moms who work full time and moms who EP. I can see this being extremely easy for a secondary caregiver or EPing mom, and cutting down the likelihood of contamination, waste, or the cream getting wasted as you transfer from bag to bottle. I thought I would be going back to work, but as I'm not, I'm not sure how much use we'll be getting out if it. We'll see when I go back to school.

The bottle warmer I LOVE. I didn't want one initially (I don't like one-trick ponies and would have gotten a small crock pot had one proven necessary) but one came with the starter kit I bought. It's totally safe for breast milk. (It would be really dumb of them to included one that wasn't considering it's a breast milk storage system.) It heats the bottled by circulating heated water around the bottle/bag. It takes about 9 minutes to warm a frozen bag of milk, 5 minutes to make a plastic bottle of refrigerated milk tepid, and 4 minutes to make a glass bottle of refrigerated milk perfect. My baby goes from 0 to 60 when hungry, so that extra minute makes all the difference.

It seriously took me a good 5 minutes of reading this post before I figured out:

    (A) this is an update for an old post ("why are people adding to their registries now? That's really weird")

    and

    (B) that this is not a feeding kit that has something to do with your Kindle. (Letters are hard)

  • I have it and I love it although I would try to use the bottles first and see if your LO takes it, also yes the bags are a bit expensive but they are convenient that's what I used for my freezer stash I just recently switched bag because I need to freeze more than 5 oz at a time I like that I can pump in straight in the bag.
