Breast Milk Allergy

I searched the boards and couldn't find this mentioned anywhere.  When I was an infant I was allergic to breast milk.  I couldn't keep it down and was super sick the entire time my mom tried to breast feed.  DH and I are TTC, and I'm concerned about the possibility of my children having the same allergy.  Does anyone know if that kind of allergy could be genetic?  I do know that my mom was lactose intolerant while she was pregnant with me, and I was lactose intolerant as a kid, could that be an indicator of the allergy?  I still have some issues with lactose, so I'm not sure if I would notice a difference.  Any advice would help, thanks!!!!!

I'm going to bet you weren't actually allergic to breast milk so much as probably intolerant of something she was eating. Read the MSPI posts below. Many babies have this issue (both of mine included.) You can usually manage it through diet.
Another possibility would be reflux, which can be managed through meds. I wouldn't worry about it right now.
TTC with PCOS since November 2009
    IUI#1 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP, m/c
    IUI#2 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 5-9) = BFN
    IUI#3 Femara/Ovidrel (cd 3-7) = BFP!
    beta #1 11/23 = 270, P4 = 75
    beta #2 11/28 = 2055

  • My parents did have to use the (expensive at the time) lactose free formula.  I don't know if my mom tried to drink milk while she was breast feeding or not, that is something I should ask her.  The only other food allergies I have my mom has too, so I know that shouldn't be the issue.  Thanks for the advice :)
