UTI?

I've been taking antibiotics for a bladder infection. I have 2 left, but I feel like it might not be helping. It's an a symptomatic UTI, so I never really had symptom. However, when I cut back on my liquids to sleep through the night I notice it's a burning feeling AFTER I relieve myself. It's not painful, it's just constant until I fall back asleep or drink tons of water to refill my bladder. I'm confused because I'm taking the medication of infection.

Re: UTI?

  • Sometimes I get a burning sensation after I pee and it means I'm dehydrated. I drink tons and tons of water and it resolves itself. I'd definitely talk to your doctor about your symptoms, but in the meantime, I'd act as if you're dehydrated and I'd drink tons of liquids. Good luck and feel better.

  • When is your next OB Apt? I had an asymptomatic UTI at the beginning of the pregnancy, took my meds, and then they retested me at my next appointment a few weeks later. If your next apt is close, maybe make sure you get retested.
  • Speaking as someone who gets lots of UTIs, and boy do they ever suck!, if you are still experiencing symptoms once your treatment is finished, call your Dr.  They can have you come in and do a urine screening to make sure that you are cleared up.  It's better to continue treatment right away than to wait until it gets worse again, possibly antibiotic resistant, and harder to treat.
  • I hear you. I had no symptoms but had one at first ob visit for labs. I just went recently and asked to be checked again and it's still there ands me bacteria in culture yuck!!.... And now almost all done with meds I feel more symptoms than ever. I have a retest next week. Hoping....
  • I talked to a midwife and she said it could just be spasms from my bladder. I drink sooo much water through out the day because I can't quench my thirst, but at night I slow down. I hate waking up ever few hours to pee. Once I wake up and empty, I have that discomfort until I rehydrate. Last night I had a very large glass of water and peed before bed. I woke up once, peed and drank another glass. When I finally for up for the morning, I didn't have that sensation. Interesting.
  • This is not applicable for me now as I only drink one cup a day, but my bladder is really affected by caffeine (my mom too). My bladder hurts for days if I drink too much caffeine and not enough water.... It hurts after I pee and not burning during pee or anything. It's difficult to explain but the pain is more internal than in my actual urethra.
Caffeine is a known bladder irritant.
Your bladder can also be irritated by too much water as much as it can be by too little, as well as spicy or acidic foods. Check out this website for further info. It may not be a UTI after all if your test comes back negative.... https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/urinary-incontinence/in-depth/bladder-control-problem/art-20046597
