My Girlfriend And I (Yes We're Lesbians) Have Been Together For Four Amazing Years, And I Honestly Think It's Time For Us To Start Planning For Us To Start A Family . I'm Having Serious Baby Fever And I Really Think We're Ready, But The Problem Is We're Not Sure Where To Even Begin Planning. Any Advice?
When my GF and I decided to start trying our gyno referred us to a fertility doctor. We started seeing that doctor and they pretty much walked us through our options. We ended up choosing a sperm donor and going through one or two unmedicated IUI cycles before starting medicated inseminations. After several unsuccessful inseminations, we started the IVF process with the same donor sperm.... Those too were unsuccessful.... Then we found a sperm bank through a friend that will deliver to your house (there are some that will only deliver to a doctor's office and most doctor's offices will only allow inseminations in office) so we are currently using a new donor and doing home insemination (it's cheaper and not medicated)
Also, there's a board called LGBT parenting that I also frequent that has more lesbian couples going through the TTC process
@BillyHorrible from what I've seen the only same sex board is the LGBT parenting board. It seems like most of those women are TTC though (it's a good mix of TTC and already parents)
After my long rambling post, your best bet is to discuss it with your ob/gyn.... Or if you don't want to drag her/him into it.... Research local fertility doctors and have a consult with one of them.
If you'd rather not dive straight into that because of money issues (fertility doctors are expensive and not generally covered by insurance) then I would suggest discussing possible sperm donors and do a home insemination. Research possible sperm banks and then possible donors (if you're only interested in home insemination right now, make sure the sperm bank will deliver to a residential address and make sure they're credible)
That's probably rambling and confusing but feel free to ask any other questions and I'll try my best

I'm paging @mallory4284 because she might be a good resource for you.
In any case, good luck!
