Has anyone else experienced really bad sciatic nerve pain? Mine gets so bad that I can hardly walk and my knee swells up pretty bad. It's only on my right side though.
Oh, sciatica. Pain in my ass. And back. And hips. And legs.
I had it bad with both girls, and I guess my body decided 19/20 weeks is the right time to strike again.
I have some good yoga stretches I got during prenatal yoga last time, and I HIGHLY suggest you take a class if you have one/are able. Prenatal yoga is at the top of the list once DH finds a job and we get some extra $$$ back in the house.
I had it later in my pregnancy with my first one this one it came at 17 weeks ( the last couple days I have had to DH rub my lower back but he's not the most gentle person and it doesn't help. He just wants to help though, bless his heart! I have found though sitting on our exercise ball sometimes helps.
For some reason, my worst pain is in my heel. Ouch! Doc says it is also sciatica.
I'm with @bowlwoman on recommending yoga stretches. It doesn't fix it in the moment for me, but if I do some stretches everyday, it helps a lot. If you don't have classes locally, there are some good DVDs, and YouTube of course

Oh my gosh tell me about it.. I've been on bed rest for a week now because of this. It's so bad I can't walk. Thankfully I live in Canada, so I am officially on sick leave until my maternity leave can start. I work a job where I am on my feet for 8 hours and have a wear uncomfortable shoes, so my doctor insisted I stopped working. It's going to be a long, boring 4.5 months!
Oh yes ! It is absolutely dreadful ! I have it on my left and it gets so bad that I can't do absolutely anything. Whichever position I'm in when it strikes I have to stay in, I can't walk crawl sit stand or lay. I turn into a statue until it subsides enough to continue my day.
My doc said oh just take some Tylenol and even though safe to take during pregnancy I can't bring myself to take medicine during pregnancy. Maybe because it's my first I feel like I don't want to do anything wrong.
i have pain on the left side of my lower back. comes and goes. sometimes just a pinch, other times excruciating and can barely lift/move my left leg. talked to OB... she suggested similar things as above: prenatal yoga (and stretching in general), swimming, massage.
if you're interested in prenatal yoga class (and it's expensive in your area), you may want to call some studios (or your hospital) to see if they have any partnerships. for example, prenatal yoga classes at my studio are only $5 (as opposed to the regular $18) if you tell them that your doctor recommended you come (from a nearby hospital). worth an ask.
Mine is horrible. It gets progressively worse as the day goes on, so by the time I leave work at 6 in hobbling around like an old man. With dd it didn't get bad until much later On
Re: Sciatic Nerve
My Dr recommended a chiro, warm baths, and Tylenol.
