Is rice cereal not the best option anymore?

DH works with a lot of women (mostly 50+). They love our DD & I always bring her in for visits & DH shares a lot with them.

Lately they have been telling him it's time we start her on rice cereal, and he also told me his mom said this too. DD has no reflux, and we are doing just fine at 4months right now & I was planning on introducing solids at 6mths. For some reason DH is taking all their advice seriously & I told him a lot has changed since they had babies 30+ yrs ago. How do you politely decline everyone's a constant advice??

  • If they are sincerely asking when you plan on starting solids, just politely say you are actually planning on waiting until 6 months in light of current guidelines and the advice of your pediatrician. I find older ladies in particular rarely argue too much if you say your pediatrician advises this route. If they are just making conversation or throwing random tidbits at you, I'd just smile & nod, then change the subject.

Are you also asking how to convince your husband that waiting / skipping rice cereal is the best choice? There's been several good articles posted yesterday in another thread that you could share with him. Or there's probably hundreds of others from good sources easily found with a quick Google search.

  • Yes, sorry, this did sound confusing... It was at the end of the day that I posted it. I guess what I meant was that it seems everyone's advice is "start giving her rice cereal". I've read/heard that rice cereal is not nutritionally sound & more for a reflux remedy. Anyway, I don't want to give her anything right now until my doctor says it's time.
