First Ultrasound & Seeing a Heartbeat

I had my first doctors appointment today. I wasn't meant to have it until tomorrow but I had the day off anyway so called and had them reschedule. Since I had a recent miscarriage the doctor asked if I'd like him to write me an ultrasound form so I could have an early scan to ease my mind. Of course I said yes. Usually here they don't give you a first scan until you're 12 weeks unless you specifically ask or need one. My doctor said I should wait until next Tuesday to have the scan done because I'll be able to see a heartbeat by then. But that will put me at only 5w3d. Am I missing something? I thought you had to be at least 6 weeks along to see a heartbeat? Don't get me wrong, if I could see see a heartbeat at barely 5 weeks I'd be all over that but I'm afraid I'll worry unnecessarily if I don't see a heartbeat then. Then again I'm desperate to know things are going well and kind of want the scan like right now. What would/did you do? Would you wait and book the scan for after 6 weeks or have it at 5w3d? What's the earliest any of you have seen a visible heartbeat on ultrasound?

    I would wait until I was 6 weeks for a scan. I had my second scan today at 6w+6d pregnant and heard a heartbeat :).. It gave me peace in mind after not seeing or hearing anything at 5 weeks pregnant especially with my previous mc. Best of luck! Sending t&p!

    My RE looks for a hb at 6 weeks. Any earlier it could be hit or miss. At 5 weeks you should see at least the yolk sac and maybe start to see the fetal pole. Good luck!

    Because I had an EP previously, my RE had told me we would have a scan at 5wks to check placement and then 6wks to look for growth and HB. I had the 1st scan at 5wks4 and there was no fetal pole or HB. At 6wks1, there was-HB was only 96 so must have just begun. If you aren't concerned about an EP, I would ask for the scan to be at least 6wks, if not a few more days later. Good luck!!

    My OB had originally scheduled me for my first scan at 5w5d. Knowing the odds that we may not see a HB I pushed it back a week. My last pregnancy was a MMC, and I wasn't sure my heart could take hearing there wasn't a HB again if I could help it. Good luck to you!!

    Ditto everyone else on waiting until 6 weeks, I had my first at 6w or 6w1d and saw a heartbeat.  Going earlier and not seeing one yet would've really stressed me out, probably unnecessarily.  Good luck!

    This. it's best to wait until at least 6weeks, closer to 7.

    My situation little different I went in at 5 weeks and some days because I wanted to see yolk or fetal pole because I had two blighted ovum's prior to this lo...so I wanted to know there was some baby in there...anything...I heard heart beat at 6 wks 2 days if I recall right...so for you I would wait until 6 wks! Good luck!

    If possibly not seeing a HB at 5w will freak you out, I would definitely wait until 6w+. With DD I went in at 5w4d and only saw a sac. It was a long wait until my next u/s at 8w to make sure all was ok! With this LO I went in at 6w4d and got to see the HB.

    Im seeing a high risk doctor because of my past miscarriages an my first ultrasound was at 5weeks an we seen a heartbeat then got another at 9w1d an everything looked pretty healthy i would get the ultrasound done to ease ur mind because i was the same way an it made me feel so much better knowing everything was ok
