November 2013 Moms

play yards

Does anyone have a play yard and would you recommend it? My parents watch DD during the week at their house, and they think it would be a good idea to have one. I'm hesitant because I can't imagine she'd be content in that little space and would probably just try to climb it/knock it down. Should I just suck it up and buy one anyway?

I bought one out of necessity, and I love it! I got this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KBGTRAC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1406755717&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

It's super easy to set up and travel with! Only tough thing is now that he is pulling up, I really have to keep an eye so he doesn't fall over.
  • We have the north states super yard. We have three of them and love them.
  • This is what we have (dog sold separately). You can add and remove pieces as you need. B is content in the space with all of her toys. We have it so it takes up most of the room though. She is starting to climb it (see my HDBD pic). My guess is that our weeks are numbered before she gets over.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • I have the same one as @VegasGal1978‌ and love it. It keeps her safe while I go to the restroom, finish cooking, etc. I've also found that if I put a few choice toys in there then she is able to focus on them rather than constant going from toy to toy. I also have it placed on the rug so that her knees get a break from our hardwood floors!
  • Thanks ladies, I think you've convinced me!

We got a big inflatable pool instead. Sometimes we turn it into a ball pit. It was around $20 and it's worked out well. He likes it fine, and when our friends bring their kids over they like to play in it also.
  • We have the north states superyard. It works great. However I wish it had a door. We have to step over to get in and out. And my parents don't feel comfortable doing that while holding a baby.

Inflatable pool.  Best $25 I have spent.  And it's comfy so when I am in there playing with him I just lean back and relax sometimes :)

@cagoldi and @mmm50: so clever! I can see doing that in our house, but my mom will probably raise an eyebrow to me hauling over an inflatable pool.

  • Funny how we can all be on the same page, I ordered 2 of the north gate play yards yesterday out of desperation, one for us and one for grandmas.

We have a Joovy Room2. It's a great place to put DD in a pinch, but not to play long term. Shes a Velcro baby.

DS loved to be in the Joovy Room2, and could play in it for 20min at a time. He was a high needs baby, but didn't mind being put down for 20min at a time.

I think it just depends on the baby

  • We just ordered this from Amazon. We are going to stretch it all the way out to create a barrier between the eat in kitchen area and the family room (it's all open concept).

@cagoldi‌ does Sinny mess with the pool? That's a great idea, but I don't want to spend $100 in inflatable pools to win the battle pool vs. cat claws..

No, he mostly just yells at it. Once in awhile he jumps in to headbutt Atticus, then jumps out again before long. Sinny only claws material really, the carpet in the second floor and my loveseat are testament to that fact. I never even thought about him puncturing it. I think he would have to purposely sink his claws in to accomplish that, just walking across the bottom hasn't done anything so far.
