Babies on the Brain

Can't stop thinking about baby #2

DS 1 is only 7 months old and I already can't wait to get pregnant again. We're not actively trying or anything right now, I actually have the IUD, but I can't stop thinking about wanting to take it out and try for a 2nd. Logically it doesn't make sense for us right now, so we won't, but I can't believe this overwhelming feeling I've been having. To be honest I thought we'd be a one and done family but every time a friend announces they're pregnant it makes me miss being pregnant and the very early days of being with my newborn. I have no idea why I'm having such crazy baby fever. Any other moms experience this after their LO's were born?

Re: Can't stop thinking about baby #2

  • I felt that way too. The first night we were home from the hospital I was dreaming about having another baby. I think it's hormones ;)
I managed to wait until DD was 15 months before trying again. I will warn you that pregnancy with a toddler to take care of is no joke, and 2u2 can be crazy. Right now it seems like a great idea because 7mo olds are cute and cuddly. But then they turn into toddlers... ;)

  • I think it's incredibly normal.  Your baby is no longer a newborn and it's easy to get nostalgic for that phase once it's over.  For most people I think things get a lot easier after 6 mos and they start imagining they are ready to do it over again.  I think it comes and goes periodically depending on the stage your LO is in.

I got baby fever when DD was around 9 or so mos and DH and I were planning to try for #2 when DD was 15 mos or so.  Instead I got pregnant almost right away.  Mine are 19.5 mos apart.

@sindorato‌ My best friend turned to me in the hospital JUST after delivering her DS & said she was ready to get pregnant again with baby#2! I told her she was absolutely crazy!!!! Sure enough on her sons first bday she announced she was 5 months prego with #2!
  • That's how I felt right after having him! I still have that feeling but I'm also feeling a bit guilty about it too.
  • I'm 16 months older than my brother to the day, I used to think my mom was nuts having us so close together, maybe baby fever really got to her lol; I give her a lot of credit. We're planning on waiting at least a couple years but it was so weird feeling this way, glad to know I'm not the only one
    :)

  • I have a 10.5 month old and we're trying to space them at least 2 years apart.  I've got a little baby fever, but there's a big difference between 7 and 10 months.  Now that he's walking it's a whole nother ball game.  I'm going to see what life is like in a few months and then decide if two years a part is actually too close for me personally.
  • That's how I was after #1. DH was on board too, so we ended up having #2 14 months later. I actually think pregnancy might be easier when they are so little because you can take naps and they don't move that fast. However, having two babies in the house with different sets of needs was REALLY draining. I honestly don't remember that much of #2's first 6 months and 6-12 months was pretty hard too. Of course now it is pretty sweet because they are both toddlers!
