Eating Normal vs. Small Meals

I'm at 18 weeks today and still eating pretty normal. I have continued to eat my regularly sized lunch and dinner portions. I sometimes snack but I've always done that when I get home from work. I assume we move to smaller meals throughout the day because our stomach just can't fit that much at once due to lack of room. But I feel like everyone here is talking about all these small meals and snacks throughout the day and I just haven't felt the need to do so yet. When does that usually kick in? Am I just not far enough along?

Re: Eating Normal vs. Small Meals

  • When I got to 16 weeks I found myself not being able to eat that much. Now I'm 20 weeks and I can't eat my whole meal in one sitting. But I do snack a little bit throughout the day. You just have to make sure you are getting enough calories throughout the day if this happens to you

  • This makes me feel better. I do know I cannot overeat at restaurants anymore. Those portions I cannot handle without feeling really uncomfortable.
  • For some reason this whole pregnancy I havent been able to eat large portions. And I love food! I just have to be very mindful to stop when getting full because if I over eat I feel sick. So I noticed I dont eat much of a breakfast, have a bigger lunch because I get super hungry, and a small dinner. Snacks are just if I'm hungry which are hit or miss. I just go with the flow.

  • I was snacking all the time before.  There have been a couple of days where I have been eating normal meals or just slightly smaller than normal.  I figure I am just going to go with the flow and listen to when my body wants to snack vs eat a meal.

I have to snack constantly in between meals or I get nauseous.  If you don't have this feeling - be grateful! :-)  I am 21 weeks today.
  • I have been eating smaller portions since the beginning of my pregnancy. First tri and even into this one I get really nauseated if I eat my normal sizes portions and I don't dare eat more then a normal.
