Talking to your LO

Good morning ladies :-)

I'm a FTM here anxious and excited like all of you for our LO to arrive. I was wondering if you've started to read to your baby yet, and to see what other types of bonding activities if you've started, if any. I've been reading Dr. Seuss's 'Oh the Places You'll Go: a book to be read in utero' 2-3 times a week for couple of weeks (it's such a cute book and I highly recommend it!).

I'm at 20 weeks this week (we'll find out the sex next week!!) and I haven't felt the baby move too much, just a small taps here and there once or twice a day at most. I'm wondering if I start talking to him/her more, or found other ways to interact with the LO more, it might motivate the LO to move more ;-)

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Just wait until the school year starts - this baby girl will hear tons of stories in my classroom! :x

  • I have just started talking to my LO as the movements have become a little more obvious. It's like I am finally realizing that there really is a little person in there! Once I go back to school, this LO will learn all about American History, Ancient History, and hear some great books geared more towards 8th graders than babies! But, my DS loved it. He did not love pep rallies, so we'll se how this one does!!

DH and DD (who is 2) just started talking to the baby in mommy's belly. DD gets really into it and puts her mouth right up on my tummy to talk which tickles like crazy.
  • I have started talking to him and just started reading to him. My sister gave me the "Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go" a book to be read in utero. It is the sweetest thing.

From the book: To our delight, the book they read was "The Cat in the Hat." The researchers found increased uterine activity during the reading - an a gradual settling down afterward. This response to the book continued after delivery. The baby apparently recalled having heard the story before....in utero!

I read the story to him last night, and sure enough he kicked while I was reading it. My husband thinks its weird to talk to my stomach, but is coming around to the idea. I think it's precious :)

  • Eh. Well, I say hi baby when I get a big movement. Otherwise, I read and sing to my DS every day and I figure LO is getting the benefit of that as well.

  • I don't really say much to baby.. I'm sure she hears me talking all day though, and hears me reading to my son at bedtime.

My constant chattering to her will begin when she comes out!

  • I've noticed in the last week that every time I am in the car singing along to the radio, LO starts moving. I'm not sure if it's in protest or if he's dancing along.  :D
  • E talks to the baby quite frequently. H does every now and then too. I only seem to talk to LO when I'm telling baby to knock off the kicking straight on my bladder. Feels like a little electrical zap to my bladder every time.

  • Love all the comments! Thanks again for sharing!! Luckily, I've had such an easy pregnancy so far that sometimes I forget that I have a little person growing in my tummy. But, I've always heard that talking (or other similar types of prenatal stimulation) to the baby seems to increase their awareness.

My DH also started to talk to the LO, and I think it's so cute that guys get all into this whole pregnancy thing too!!!!

  • To be honest I haven't really talked to LO. I try from time to time but after a sentence or two stop. I never know what to tell him and he never seems to kick when I talk. Only when I drink something cold or right before bed when I lay down. Never when I talk to him
  • We've talked to the belly since we found out we have our miracle in there. We haven't started on books yet but we do talk to Ellie as if she's already here telling her about what we're doing and talk to her about her room or clothes we got for her. Needless To say she will be used to a conversation and may be speaking full sentences by the time she's here!
  • I should add she kicks the v most when I'm quiet. .. Can't Tell if it's a good or bad thing haha
  • I don't talk much, but I play music a lot. DH made a cd in high school of himself playing the guitar and singing (he doesn't know I have a copy ;) ) and I play my favorite song from it a few times a day... Baby is very active! He/she (it?) is generally active while music is playing, but I like to think there is more movement when LO hears dad's voice. :)

  • I make sure to have my radio up enough for baby to enjoy some. SO talks to him but I have not read to him. I didn't even know people did that, but that sounds so sweet I want to start!
  • I don't talk to my baby, but I admit I'm totally that pregnant woman that walks around rubbing her belly all the time. I can't help it.
