White Crib Anyone?

I was wondering if any STMs have a white crib and if so, what do you think about it?

My color scheme for LO is lavender, white, light yellow, and light grey. Since the colors are light I was thinking about getting a white crib but wondering if I will regret it later since white gets so dirty easily. My other option would be to go with a grey crib. LO and DD will share a room and DD's crib is black. Either way I'm not going to have matching crib colors. I was going to see if DD's crib comes in white so they would at least match. I know for sure her crib doesn't come in grey.

Re: White Crib Anyone?

  • We have a white crib.  It's been through 2 kids and we haven't had any issues with it getting dirty.  It wipes down pretty easily.  The reason I went with white was because it was easier to mix and match other pieces of furniture, rather that worry about slightly different shades of other colors.

I am so glad this subject came up. I'm a first time mom and decided to go with a Rhine crib since baby will be sharing a room with me. But I've got many snarky comments of no don't do that why white it'll get dirty and bad idea. So it's nice to hear from other people who went with a white crib :)

DD has a white crib and I'll probably buy another one for this baby.  I just wipe it down every so often.

  • When mine came, we had to put it together... it got a little dirty in the process where DH was holding it w/ dirty hands (I killed him).  But, it wiped down w/ Clorox wipes super easy.

Very good tip. My crib should be ready for pick up soon and I now know to have DH make sure his hands are squeaky clean before he touches the crib :)

I'm also a FTM and I am going with a white crib. I just don't know which one yet. I'm having a boy.

I have a white IKEA crib for my youngest and it cleans up a lot more easily than my older son's wood crib.

I would caution against using Clorox or other chemical cleaners. Baby is going to have his/her hands and mouth all over the crib. I like Babyganics wipes and plain vinegar/water mix to clean anything my babies put their mouths on.
  • I wanted white cribs for these LOs because we have so much dark furniture (seriously - dining room, living room, our room and DD's room - all dark wood) but DH vetoed that. I never thought about them getting dirty.

  • We have a white crib, and found it very easy to clean, either with Clorox wipes or just regular old baby wipes.  Btw, I love your nursery scheme!

  • My son's is dark wood and we are reusing that, but if I didn't have one already I would have bought white for this little girl.

  • We have the IKEA Gulliver in white. No baby to put in it yet but it survived coming home and being put together in terrific shape and cleanliness.

  • The crib I have is a dark wood. It gets dirty just as easy, between spit up (DS had pretty bad reflux) and dust and all of that. So I think no matter which way you go, you will have to clean it just as much.

  • I'm actually a big fan of white furniture because I can SEE the mess.  We bought the IKEA Gulliver in white (though it hasn't been used yet) and much to my mother's consternation, we own a white IKEA couch - which has a removable, washable slipcover.  Whenever we clean it I wonder how dirty it could get in another color without me being able to see it!

  • I had a white crib and a white toddler bed for my DD. It may be easier to see the dirt but just think like this you see it you clean it. With wood cribs you don't notice the dirt so you may not wipe it down as much.

We have a brown crib, but my daughter has a white bed that will become white bunk beds when this baby is out of a crib.

  • Exact color scheme we are doing! I wonder if you chose the same bedding? :)

And yes, white crib....so excited for that after having dark cherry with my others.

    @mikesfan

We are going with some of the fabrics in this swatch pattern. I was able to find them in stores and online. My MIL is making a quilt as well as the rest of my crib bedding.

We have the pasiley kinda looking fabric (top left), the owl fabric and light grey chevron fabric, along with others not pictured here.

  • We just bought our white crib and can't wait to put it together! I think white goes with so much stuff and brightens up the room!! In my mind, you really can't go wrong with the color :-)
  • We are using DDs crib which is light wood but if we were buying it would have been white!
  • DD's nursery has white (well, to be fair, ivory) furniture. She's 18 months and it's not even the slightest bit dirty. We love it! Though I will say, I'm now excited about a cherry wood nursery since we used white with her.

Here are a couple pictures of the furniture in her nursery:
