Rash Under his chin from drool...

I swear it gets better and then worse again... Some say leave it without any thing on it and let it air out, that doesn't work! Someone said vaseline, that didn't work! I tried coconut oil and that helped but it came right back! Is there something the dr can give you or is it something else that seems to work??? I mean it's in the crease so it isn't like you can let it air out! Help!!!

We are getting this too. He gets a circle shaped spot under his chin and some in his neck crease on one side. We usre coconut oil and desitin when it's bad. (Keeping it wiped clean often with water and pat dry really well first) We keep his clothes changed often and drool bibs changed often to cut down on moisture in the area. Its rough tho to get rid of it! Im interested to see what others suggest too...
Oh our dogs lick him a lot now too after he drools big. Lol seems to help actually. :)

  • I just try to keep under the chin and neck creases as dry as possible but when the rash gets worse than just redness (little bumps), I use Nystatin that was prescribed by her doctor and it clears up quick.
  • We use Butt Paste diaper cream. It "weather-proofs" and soothes the dry skin. It also rubs into the skin and doesn't leave a white film. I generally put it on in the morning and reapply after I wash his face. It clears the rash in a day, but I try to use it as a preventative too.
  • Audrey has started getting this too. She has a pediatrician appointment this week so if she it hasn't cleared up by then hopefully they'll prescribe something. I've been putting Destin on it.

  • Well he goes to daycare and I've told them to make sure the area stays as dry as possible. I am hoping they do and so far seem to have done a pretty good job! Just wondering if maybe putting Destin on in the mornings would be a good preventative for the day?

Oh and I called the peds because it was getting worse (very red with bumps) turns out it was a yeast infection. Put lotrimin on it and cleared it up in less then 2 days!!
  • My son had this for a few days a couple of weeks ago. We just strap a bib on him and wipe his fat little neck with a wet cloth periodically. Seems to work, it hasn't come back.

  • After drying the area, we used Neosporin triple antibiotic cream. Used a tiny amount twice a day and after 2 days it was gone!
  • I consistently put coconut oil on the chin but if you're talking about the neck rolls I agree with PP that the bum paste works amazing in the rolls.. Looks strange when you see the smear of white paste in there but it's much better than an irritated neck roll.
  • Use baby powder with corn starch. Once they can hold their head up and lift themselves with their arms it will go away. My daughter had the same thing.
  • Same thing for my LO when it gets really hot outside. I use baby powder on the neck area and it's gone within a day or two. I wipe the neck often with a towel to ensure its dry and then apply a generous amount of baby powder.
  • DD2 gets redness on her massive cheeks. I just continually put lotion on it, sometimes aquafor, other times regular baby lotion. Her skin takes anything, so it usually clears pretty quickly.

  • Baby Nicholas has lots of folds (such a chunkster, lol), and in addition to under his neck, I noticed he gets red in his armpit folds as well, so I just started putting some balmex on those places, usually once in the morning at first diaper change then after bath at night. I live in the South, so it has been extra hot and humid these past few weeks that have made it worse.
  • We used diaper cream... and once it healed up.. then we would dab some baby powder on it before bed. Seems to work.

  • Same as the pp'ers. I use butt paste or baby powder. Depends what I have in hands but both work well

  • I second corn starch. We use maizena for smelly under chin rash and diaper rash...gone following morning. I wouldn't be comfortable putting a strong diaper creme so close to his face, maybe that's just me.
