Clomid Questions

Hello ladies... few questions for you as this is my first cycle taking Clomid (50 mg CD 4-8).

1. My lining was low at CD12 ultrasound - how much does the endometrium lining increase daily (I have heard 1 mm per day - but I want to know some examples from you ladies)? I O'd yesterday so I had 3 extra days to increase my lining.

2. If I had 2 ripe follies with the 50 mg of Clomid would that be the "norm" on that dose or does the effectiveness decrease with each cycle that you take it?

3. If the RE has me doing another round of Clomid will my lining be even thinner the next time or does your body get used to it?

Thanks so much for your insight.

My RE is a huge believer in 12 oz of POM juice a day (CD1-20) to help thicken the lining. He also believed wholeheartedly in doing CD5-9 to produce better quality of eggs, vs CD 3-7 would be more for larger quantity of eggs. I've done three cycles in the past with three follow ups and and my lining was 7mm month 1 and 2 and 8mm month 3. It's so interesting how every RE varies on when to do clomid. I'm starting 50mg on Friday (cd5-9) good luck!

What was your lining on cd12? My lining was 9mm this round and I was on clomid cd 3-7, with three follies (18, 20 and 22mm) on cd 11. My OB triggered me that day. My first cycle on it I had 2 follies (17mm and 20 7mm lining) this was a bfp (ended in a loss) and my second cycle was 20 and 22mm (8mm lining) and that was a bfn. So I can't speak to the effectiveness being decreased with multiple months use. Like I said I'm only on cycle 3 of the clomid :)

I don't know about CD12! I ovulate CD19 or CD20 so my RE always brings me in at CD15 to be checked! My lining has always been between 7mm and 9mm and in the past I had a (1) 21 and (2) 22 mm eggs. In February it was our third month on clomid when we had two of the eggs catch and one of the eggs split and we conceived the triplets. The first month we were on clomid my eggs didn't get larger then 16mm, but January and February we were consistent with three healthy eggs (21-22mm) and 18-19mm lining. We start clomid again this Friday!! WooHoo!!

The ultrasound tech said my lining was 2.4. I haven't heard of anyone with lining that low!!! They didn't want me to come back in for a repeat either... Good luck to all of you ladies!!

What was your lining at your last ultrasound? 2 good follies is good. Yes if you are not careful repeated use of clomid can continue to thin your lining which is why you need careful monitoring.
Thinning of the lining is a pretty well known side effect of clomid (sorry I don't have a link). One of the big issues with clomid is that it does not leave your system as quickly as other fert drugs which is why using it in back-to-back cycles can result in a progressively thinner lining. It is just one of the many reasons why REs need to properly monitor patients on clomid.

In my personal experience, I had a doctor who told me that my lining was so thin that I would never be able to sustain a pregnancy if I became pregnant unless I was immediately put on progesterone. Since this was a short time after I had finished 3 cycles on clomid, I believe that the condition of my lining was related to my clomid cycles - especially since I no longer have any issue with a too thin lining.

As far as getting less effective - two mature follies is a good response and shows that you do ovulate with that dosage. I've seen doctors up dosage for patients who have a poor or no response in order to try and get them to produce follies/ovulate. It sounds like 50 is working for you.

Didn't want the trigger due to the lining and we weren't planning on doing IUI this cycle. I will for sure try the POM juice next cycle. Only thing RE said was that he doesn't think that I have enough lining for an egg to stick even if it is fertilized. Just sucks... Thanks so much for the info.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time with this cycle. Did your RE mention anything about starting progesterone now to thicken it?

Is your RE having you do progesterone supplements post-O? That is really thin and, if this cycle is not successful, I would definitely talk with your RE about how thin your lining was on CD12, where they want to see it, and things they might recommend.

Thanks so much for your kind words @snegde‌. He did the cd3 ultrasound but he didn't tell me what my lining was at that time... Just said it looked good. He mentioned maybe switching to femara? @MSU_Girl1202‌ - I do take progesterone 3dpo so I will be starting that in a few days. Does it help to thicken lining or just prepare it for implantation?

Just something to consider, and I haven't done too much research on it myself, but my RE said that Femara also thins the lining :-(

@snegde‌ : very true. And Femara has less side effects, which is also nice
