No swaddle!

So we found out last week that DD is a tummy sleeper. We have been putting her down for naps on her tummy and no swaddle, and she has been doing ok. But, terrible mom I am, I put her down for bed, on her tummy, with the swaddle after a couple nights of it not working without. She was fine, she could get her arms out, as I kept it loose. Yes, I knew that wasn't the brightest idea, so I slept in her room.Yes, I knew that it still wasn't the brightest idea, but cold turkey wasn't working.

Anyhow, last night she went all night, excpept for about an hour without it! Tonight I put her down without it, in her sleep sack, and am hoping for the best.

It has been a long 5 months of swaddling for sure! I am so over it, and I know she is too. So glad to be without! I swear, I do not even want to swaddle our next child!

Re: No swaddle!

  • I am feeling you on the swaddle thing. I tried to nights ina row to do without the swaddle sompletely and she kept tryig to play with her feet so we are back to only have the arms out. I was hoping to stop all together but i think I will be going to buy a sleep sack. Definitely no swaddling next time around.

  • I hope this goes well for you - we're still swaddling and I am super scared of what we have coming when we try to break her. She sleeps on her tummy for naps when I am in the room with her, but when she's not swaddled on her back she wakes herself up every 30 minutes or so!  ugh...
  • Good luck!

I am SO not looking forward to breaking the swaddle habit.  He claws his ears, makes himself bleed and wakes up.  Without fail.

  • It was a long time coming. I tried every couple of weeks for the last few months, and it did not go well at all. I think the no swaddle for naps really helped. Plus her am and hand control is just SOOO much better recently, and I think that helps.

Good luck to you all! I dreaded this day, and thankfully it is better than I thought it would be!

  • Try putting her to bed across the crib, so head and feet touch them bumper.  It made Ryan feel more snuggly, and he hasn't needed the MB in a month.  That very night he turned into a tummy sleeper.

We had the same problem too! We just started leaving one arm out (the left one b/c he always breaks it out and then it wakes him up). We just put a mitten on his hand and it keeps him from scratching himself. Tomorrow I am trying it with both arms out.
