Thumb Sucking

Just looking for some suggestions...

LO discovered his thumb this week (he'll be 14 weeks on Sunday) and is now obsessed with it - to the point that I can't put him down for a nap. It used to be that he'd wake up as I put him down, look at me and then close his eyes and go back to sleep.  Now, he just has to slightly stir and he's looking for his thumb.  He'll suck on it, fall asleep and then as it falls out of his mouth/his arm falls down, he wakes up again and it starts over.  After ten minutes of this he gets mad and starts crying.

I had been having him nap arms in the halo but now he's so obsessed, I can't get them in without him waking and looking for his thumb.  I have rolled him onto his side and had him fall asleep that way.  Then his arm doesn't fall and he does stay asleep until after I roll him back to his back, but without his arms in the halo, he startles after a few minutes and wakes up.

Is this just something he'll grow out of?  Or does anyone have suggestions for what I might try in the meantime.

Thanks girlies.

  • All kinds of developmental things like that can disrupt sleep but usually the disruption doesn't last long. I hope that's the case for you!
