breastpump shield advice

i received the medela PISA through my insurance and initially tested out the medium sized shields. i had checked out the online guide for fit and according to the pics i needed smaller ones. i purchased the next smaller size on amazon from a company called MayMom and was using those for a few weeks but still noticed some soreness around the nipple when I was done pumping. I decided to test-drive even the next smallest size but this hurts too. Picture wise it seems that the XS shields should fit, but i'm curious to whether or not it's really supposed to be this sore with pumping? i wanted to buy a few sets for going back to work but wanted to make sure i had the sizes down right before doing so.

what settings are you using on the pump? you should use the lowest suction that you can (and still get a let-down). pumping for too long or with too much suction can make your nipples sore.

I had the same problem so my LC suggested Ameda Flexishields. They are soft inserts for the regular shields, I really like mine. I ordered them from Amazon. GL

Are you sure you should be going DOWN in size? If you're jn pain maybe you should try sizing UP?

@vvvvvfee - not sure why i didn't think to turn the suction on lower, i'd like to blame a brain fart ..... but i tried it the last few times on a medium suction and ahhhhh no soreness.. i think there was just too much friction like @ amyG mentioned

@theresat858 - thank you for the helpful tips; i'm going to hold off on buying too many supplies for the time being. i thought i had to rinse/dry after each session but i'll test it out
