Still burping?

How old are babies when they no longer need to be burped? One of my twins (20 weeks old) seems to be pretty good with burping on her own when I sit her up - no back patting needed. The other is nearly impossible to get a burp out of and regardless if she burps she still has massive spit ups up to an hour after eating. Is everyone still burping? When does a baby no longer need to be burped?

Re: Still burping?

  • We still burp, she still throws up. I don't know why I bother. I really can't remember when I stopped with DD1.

  • We still burp both every time. I would love to know the answer too.

  • I think I stopped at 7 mos with DD, but DS needed it until 12 mos. Totally different babies.

  • I can't burp ds because he will just spit up and it will aggravate his reflux. I have to sit him up after a bottle and hope that forces the air out. Every baby has different needs I suppose.

  • I bounce and pat DS for a minute after he nurses but if he doesn't get a burp out I don't worry about it. We are lucky tho, no gas or spit up issues here or I'm sure I would be more committed.
  • It depends on the baby, but usually after they are sitting up on their own

  • I still have to burp after every ounce. If I dont, she projectile vomits across the room. Major code white.
  • I rarely burp her anymore. She falls asleep nursing almost every time and moving her only wakes her so I just leave her and let her sleep. She usually burps on her own once she wakes up and sometimes in her sleep.
