sitting and crawling

Good Morning, ladies. What age was your baby when they started sitting up on their own and crawling?

L has been a bit ahead of the curve...he was sitting unassisted at 4 months and crawling around 5.5 months.

Also...I do talk to SunshinyLees IRL. She's doing fantastic, travelled a bunch with her DD this year and just headed back to work from her maternity leave last week. I'll tell her you asked about her. She lurks here still...I've been trying to get her to post again!

Tate is 8 months today, and I saw him on the monitor sitting up in his crib for the first time ( first time pulling himself up). He gets on his hands an knees, but would rather roll around the room. He sits unsupported (since 6 months) and can now stand holding on to something, but has not completely figured out the counter balance thing yet, so I am still there to prevent a massive tumble.

P didn't sit unassisted till 9 months and started crawling at 10 months. He was diagnosed with a gross motor delay at 2 months though so he was a late bloomer.

DD has been sitting since between 5 and 6 months. She is just now starting to get up on hands and knees, she is almost 7 months. (If only I could figure out the ticker thing.) She prefers to roll around to get where she wants to go.

DD still can't sit unassisted but I've been told that she's still a bit younger than the average age for that so not to worry about it. But the poor girl is gross motor delayed from her reflux so we are working with PT to catch her up.

Thanks ladies. Zaiden has been sitting unassisted since 5.5ish months and rolling over since a little before that. He pushes up on his hands and seems to have a lot of strength there. I'm just concerned because he hates being on the floor and doing tummy time and a friend of mines baby who is 5 days younger than Zaiden started crawling the other day. I know every baby is different but still. Lol

It's so, so difficult not to compare your LO to others as far a meeting milestones! That being said, my Ped said crawling isn't really even considers a milestone, some babies don't ever crawl! Just try to think of it as a little longer before you have to put your entire house on lockdown cause once the get moving things get crazy!

I found that a lot of improvement came during alone time in the crib (middle of night, when he wakes from naps, ect). I bet you will find Z doing a lot of things on his own like sleeping with his bum in the air, getting on hands and knees, and pulling to sitting. Tate did these things in his crib first. I second trying very hard not to compare, because Z most likely did other things before some babies, like an early blossoming personality ( you can totally tell from pics). Tate had an incredible sense of humor early, but sat up a tad later. No biggie.

I can't speak for this LO since he is too young for either of those, but with DS1 he sat up by himself unassisted at just before 6 months. He then crawled at exactly 8 months. I feel like with crawling especially there is a huge range of normal and some babies just skip it altogether.

For my son
Sitting totally unassisted: 7 months
Crawling: 9 months 3 weeks (he used rolling to get around instead of going on all fours until that point)

I have a preemie, born 8 weeks early so everything is adjusted. M was a week shy of 9 months (actual age) when she started sitting. She skipped prop sitting altogether. She will be 11 months on Wednesday, and still isn't crawling.

Baby Boots was sitting on his own at 5 months, but he is 8 months and still can't get to sitting on his own (except for a couple times when we SWORE he was laying down and then we looked back and he was sitting but didn't see him get there). He can get on all fours, but no signs of actually crawling yet. Mostly he rolls to where he wants to be. He can't pull to standing yet either. He was born a month early so he might be a bit behind, but he's met all his other milestones based on actual age. Trying not to freak out yet. He certainly is making progress in his gross motor skills he just hasn't met a milestones like crawling or pulling to stand yet.
