If your LO has it, are you doing anything about it?

  • Thank you!
  • My DD started getting it around 4 weeks old. Took her to the Dr after it lasting about a week and they gave me a medicated shampoo. I used that 2x per week for 6 weeks and it stayed the same. She has a ton of hair so all the flakes were pretty noticeable.

Per this board, I tried coconut oil and it worked great after 1 try and was completely gone on the 2nd treatment! Lightly rubbed into her scalp & let sit for about 15min. Washed out & combed the flakes out as much as I could on the 1st treatment & by second it was pretty much gone

  • LO only gets it on his eyebrows.... Think the coconut oil would work the same for that? It's pretty close to his eyes as well which is why I haven't done much. It stays pretty minimal with twice a week baths.
  • @kel0504‌ my DD has the same eyebrow issue. I put aquaphor on her brows and wiped off before bed for a few days, worked like a charm!
  • @Rileypie‌ - you did aquaphor and wiped it off right away? Or let it sit for a while and just wipe it off before bed?
  • @kel0504‌ i let it sit most of the day...6-8ish hours maybe? I just wiped with a damp cloth before bed. Didn't scrub or anything. Took a couple days to get rid of it all. And applied it fairly thick and rubbed it in well. Just be careful it stays out of LOs eyes. I did it back around 6 weeks so she wasn't rubbing her face much then.
  • Thank you! I love coconut oil so I'm thrilled to hear it will help.
  • Is it bad to just leave it? I bathe LO of course and use goat milk soap, but I haven't really tried to get rid if the scales. It's really mild in her and hardly noticeable.

We had two nasty yellowy crusty spots on his upper forehead along his hair line, and then he had a big crusty patch left on the crown of his head.  We were at the ped, and he said if it was really bugging us, or if it was really making LO itchy, we could use Cortisone 10 (1%) on the spots twice daily for 4-7 days.  I tried it on the two forehead spots, and they went away in 2 days.  Then I tried it on the crown of his head, and it was gone with once a day for 2 days.  Check with your ped before you do anything like that, though.
  • I just have been using baby oil and it seems to work!

  • I have overgrowth of yeast on my scalp and use ciclopirox shampoo. The dermatologist told me I can also use it for LO just to make sure I'm careful bc it's not no-tears. Works great but it's a prescription.

  • Both my kiddos have it but my son had it bad... I mean scaly crocodile head bad. Coconut oil worked on my daughter but did nothing for my son. Finally I did olive oil on his head a hour before bath time then gave him a good wash. Three days of that and his head looks WAY better.
