Losing the nap

Hi Ladies

It has been awhile since I've been on the board.  I'm a sahm and need the nap time to regain my sanity and energy. My DD usually naps regularly but lately she doesn't want to take a nap.  She is now able to stay up all day.  I thought toddlers didn't drop naps until about 3-4.  Are you children still napping?

Mine is, usually 2- 4 hours ..depending on how the night went and what he has been up to.  But our circumstances and schedules are  far from "normal"..so ask me again after Friday LOL

.. that is my last day at work, as I resigned to stay home while hubby attends the Police academy ...now he won't be on nights anymore...our whole schedule and routine are going to be ass about face for a while.

  • Hudson still naps 2-2.5 hours a day and sleeps 11 hours at night.  Once he starts giving up the nap, we will still have quiet time in his bed because a little downtime is good for everyone.  Even my 6 year old still has rest time on the weekends.  DS1 gave up his nap around age 3...DS2 has been through a few nap strikes but we just kept with our normal routine and he went back to napping after a few days.
  • We've still got an hour and 45 min nap here. DD has done a few nap strikes, but gets back into it. Like @JENandJEH‌, we will do at least an hour of quiet time when she really gives up naps.

The sleep training book we have says they may give up naps between 2.5-3. If she's getting adequate night time sleep, she may not need a nap.

    And... @Wipz‌! Welcome to SAHMland!

Oh no! So this might not be temporary.  I guess I'll try the quiet time mention by others.  She only sleeps for 8 hours but I didn't worry because she napped during the day.

  • At daycare, they have to take a nap and he's very good about a consistent two hour nap there. However, on the weekends, we all sleep in at least 2-3 hours later in the morning so he doesn't normally nap unless we have a big outing and he's in the car. It all evens out-- always around 10/11 hours total sleep for the day.

  • She was not napping at all for a little while there, but I could tell she still really needed to.  After coming to this board for advice, we put a baby gate on her bedroom door so that she can't get out.  It forces the "quiet time" everybody else is talking about. She usually plays for a little while, but has been falling asleep during nap time.

  • My DS went on a bit of a nap strike a few weeks ago where he wouldn't nap about 3 days out of the week. We stuck with the same routine at home and daycare and he eventually went back to more regular napping. He was clearly tired and still needed the nap. He naps for 2 hrs or so and sleeps about 10 hrs at night.
