Dropped Iphone--WDPT?

Ok, so my own damn fault...I took the best but yet most cumbersome cover off my phone, and I loved how easily it fit into my pocket, so I continued on with no cover aka a "confidence cover".  I have a 4S that's 18 mos old.  Well today it fell out of my pocket and now the screen is black.  It rings, and I can use Siri, but that's it.  I share the plan with four other family members.  There is once " upgrade at a discounted price" left, and then that's it til Feb. So my fear is if I use it, and someone else's phone goes, and it is unrepairable , then what? There is a repair shop nearby that can fix it for $60.. WWYD??

  • I'd pay the $60 and get it fixed.

  • If it is that or spend $400 on another phone.. I'd go for the $60 fix.
  • Thank you super awesome ladies! I found a youtube video that shows how to do it myself...but I'm kinda worried about fucking it up further...plus I wonder if the hardware store has such a small screwdriver?!!!
  • It's probably just the LCD screen and will be fixed for the $60. Do that, don't waste your upgrade :)

  • Go to the apple store and ask if they can help you. They help me for free fairly often, even on products where I don't have apple care plus. They replaced my smashed iPad once for no good reason.

  • @theseaword I would but it's such a pain to get to the nearest one...and bad traffic almost always...esp if I go after DD wakes up...ahh!
  • I'm going to take it to the Iphone repair store nearby..has good yelp reviews...my battery totally sucks butt too...maybe have them look into that!
  • I'd try the Apple store, but if they can't help you just do with the $60 repair. Most likely they will replace the LCD.
  • Even with an upgrade available, you'll still be out of pocket some money.   So I guess it's a question of who deserves that upgrade and how you all work that out.

I would really only use the upgrade if everyone agrees to it and if you are planning on actually upgrading to the newest model.  If not, I think you should just go to the repair store.

and you can always check on Craigslist for old iPhones.  I always sell my older model there.
