Nausea Symptom of Mastitis?

I returned to work this week and had to go 9-10 hours between pumps. I work 12 hour shifts on a busy unit and was unable to pump until a lull in the action, which unfortunately, usually occurred around 3am.

This morning, I woke up with a splotchy reddened area on the left breast and pain. I massaged the area and did not feel any knot. In the past hour, I've started to feel some lethargy, achiness, and a bit of nausea (not preg I promise!) I took 2 Tylenol a couple hours ago so I don't know if that might be masking a fever.

My question is, have you ever had nausea accompany a bout of mastitis? I will call my OB tomorrow morning, but I'm currently going to the airport right now to fly out of state for a job interview. Great timing!

Any thoughts on your own experience would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Nausea Symptom of Mastitis?

  • Probably coming on with dehydration, low blood pressue and fever usually associated with mastitis. I've done that three times and drinking water gets rid of it.

REST REST REST and drink more water than you ever have before.

  • I had mastitis when my older kid was weaning, and yes nausea was one of my symptoms. If you DO have mastitis, that redness would be very hot to the touch and you would feel lumps and hardness under the skin. I had body aches, headache, fever, red/hard/painful breast, and a fever. You may have a clogged milk duct, which can be remedied by drinking a shit tonne of water and pumping or breastfeeding until it is floppy and no longer full.

  • I did. I also had a fever of 103 and my muscles hurt so bad I could hardly turn my head. Red spots also probably mean you could have it
