EBF but need to supplement for two days

My DH booked and overnight stay in a nice hotel for my birthday this weekend. He just told me. I EBF but I have a large enough supply for her but not enough to pump a lot. I can get about 2-3 ounces a day. So there is not enough time for me to pump enough to get her through 2 days. I have tried 3 different formulas and she will not take them. She spits it out and gives me this horrible face. She does take breastmilk from bottles very well so it is not a bottle thing.

So they question is what formula do you use if you need to supplement?

Re: EBF but need to supplement for two days

  • Have you tried mixing breast milk with a little formula rather than a straight formula bottle? Ordinarily that's not a great idea because it can lead to wasted breast milk, but in this case t might help and there's no harm in it.

  • It is leading to frustration. But he meant well. He wanted me to be able to relax since I am a SAHM.
I was going to try the mixing at her next feed.

This is face I am getting. Lol
  • We used the similac supplement
  • I tried enfamil for supplementing and LO hated it. Tried Enfamil Infant and have had no issues. She will take the formula just the same as she takes the boob or BM from a bottle.
  • I have tried the supplement versions. Will have to try te regular.
  • if it was me, i'd ask to postpone the trip for a few weeks to get enough time to build up a supply in the freezer.  that's a BIG trip to just spring on your EBFing spouse with a few days notice.  the gesture is lovely and so sweet, but the logistics would be difficult when you factor in needing to pump every few hours.

when kiddo was 4.5 months old, my husband took me away for one overnight to a very local B&B for our anniversary and i had to pump every few hours and store in the fridge.  it wasn't ideal, but it worked.  and at that point, i did have enough in the freezer to cover the bottles i pumped while i was away.  i would NOT have wanted to do that for a second overnight.  16 hours was enough.
This. Also...how far away is the hotel? Close enough to pop back to your house with more pumped milk? This is how I swung a two day bachelorette party recently -- left LO with enough milk for 24 hours and then dropped off all the milk I pumped while I was away the first day.

  • I use Enfamil Gentlease when supplementing.
