Pregnancy post MTX shot

Is anyone pregnant after getting the methotrexate shot for an ectopic pregnancy? How long did you wait to try? Have you had complications because of the previous pregnancy or shot? I just found out about my ectopic pregnancy yesterday and got the MTX shot. Also what was your experience with the shot? How long did it take to work? Was it painful? I've been reading tons of stories on the internet about all this (probably too much). TIA for sharing your experiences.

Lurking, but I figured I'd post. I'm sorry for your loss.

I had a the MTX shot for an EP, and had to have it again because my levels continued to rise. The shot itself wasn't painful, but honestly the ectopic was painful for several weeks. In total, it took 4 weeks to resolve. If it happened again and the first one doesn't work, I'd opt for the surgery rather than another shot.

Re: pregnancy, I was so freaked by the whole ectopic thing that we decided to wait a year, but my doc said 3 months was enough time for my body to heal. When I did get my BFP, there were no lingering problems. I did get to have an U/S right after I got the BFP rather than waiting to ensure that DS was in the right spot.

I do get a weird twinge every time I ovulate on that side, even to this day, and (because the first shot failed), I have some scar tissue in my tube that they can see on U/S.

BUT - see the siggy - babies after ectopic are totally possible (and totally adorable, but that's just my opinion!)

((HUGS)) So sorry for your loss. I had a methotrexate shot back in October but sadly within a few hours they found out I was rupturing, had emergency surgery, & I lost my tube as well as everything else. I did remember a lot of burning right after the shot, but I was in so much pain at the time I don't remember much else.

The doctor I was seeing at the time told me I could try after 2 weeks. However from my current doctor, you should probably wait 2-3 months.

I did have complications-but that was probably from the surgery & not being watched properly by my old dr. I had a lot of side twinnges on both sides. Not sure if it was from the shot, the surgery, or the tissue left in me.

I actually got pregnant after the 1st actual AF I had with no related complications. Everything is in the right place this time.

I had the shot on 10/27... i waited the 3 months before we tried again (end of Jan) got a bfp in March and had a natural M/C at 7w5d (according to the babys growth)... i honestly dont know if it had anything to do with the MTX or not, im still waiting on the testing to come back...

I had two doses of methotrexate a week apart in December. It took my beta about 5 weeks to fall to zero and at that point( first of the year) we decided to meet with an RE because I had a previous loss as well. My OB said to wait 2-3 months and my RE said technically you are ok to try after your levels are zero because the drug has a very quick half life and is out of your system within 52 hrs. We started trying just shy ofthe 3 months and got pregnant that cycle. I am just over 9 weeks and so far so good(knocking on all wood around me) I know how hard this time can be for you and I am really sorry for what you are dealing with. ((hugs))

I should say that I did have an HSG in February as part of my testing and my tubes were all clear and looked normal! GL!!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had two shots of MTX in September. The first didn't work for me, so I needed a second. By mid Oct everything was back to 0. The shot wasn't bad. I felt quesy and really tired for 24 hours afterwards.

We waited 3 months to try again, so we felt comforatable everything was out of my system. I got pregnant again my second month after trying, and have not had complications.

I had the shot after having abnormally rising betas and an u/s that showed no viable pregnancy, and some spotting. I had the shot the very next day after talking with my OB, originally I had met with the on-call OB. The shot worked immediately. My spotting turned to bleeding within a few hours and I bled for one week, just like a period. Super heavy at first and then it tapered off. I had no complications and physically my body handled it really well, nothing more than mile PMS cramps. My mood was another thing, I was so depressed. My doctor told me to wait three months before TTC again, which is the usual norm post MTX shot. I am sorry you have to go through this. Good luck.

I found out about my ectopic on 7/18 and received the MTX shot the same day. I had to get blood work done a few times since then. My HCG went from 4800 (six weeks pregnant), to 7000, to 8000... and they just dropped to 5000 yesterday (7/27). Because they dropped, I should not need another shot. I go back to the hospital for more blood work this Friday. If the HCG levels decreased, I will need to follow up with my local Quest location for weekly blood work until my levels reach close to 0. It looks like it will take anywhere between 4 to 7 weeks for this to be over.. It makes it harder because the process is so drawn out. Also, I had really bad pain and a good amount of bleeding.. the doctor said this is all normal. I was told to wait one cycle to TTC again.. however, another doctor told me 6 months.. so I am a little unsure. A CRNP said conservatively you wait 6 months.. the medicine is out of your system in a week though. I guess there is conflicting info on how long to wait. Good luck to you! The good news is that you can get pregnant and the ectopic doesnt hurt your chances of getting pregnant in the future. Try to stay positive.. i know its hard.

Definitely talk to your Dr for clarification when it is safe to TTC again MTX injections. I did not take MTX, but when it was discovered I potentially had an EP, it was mentioned amongst treatment plans. I remember being told while it takes a week or two to be out of your system, MTX also depletes the body of folic acid, and it is important to adequately build up stores before TTC. IIRC, the NP I spoke with said it could take 3 months for that to happen.

I have no experience with this, however it is my understanding fr the ladies on TTCAL that it is recommended you wait three months after you receive your last shot as the MTX inhibits your ability to absorb folic acid. If you haven't already, inteoduce yourself over there and ask the ladies of that board as well. They are very knowledgable and can give you a more informed answer than I have, but this was my understanding of the reason for waiting.
