Update:  I just want to update to say THANK YOU for all of your schedules and suggestions!  Honestly, I wish we could afford to pay a house cleaner!  I'm definitely going to put together a schedule!  MH is actually better than I am to get things done.  He hates clutter and is always tidying up.  Gotta love that!  I tend to keep everything tidy, but let the "big" chores pile up then complain about having to do them.  If they're part of our daily routine, I think I'll get more accomplished.

I see that from the toilet CPW that some of you keep a cleaning schedule.  Would you mind sharing your schedule?  I'd like to start something like this but need some guidelines!  Thanks ladies!  Happy HumpDay!

Re: Updated: Cleaning schedules

  • I go by rooms.
On Monday I vacuum, dust, and spruce the living room
Tuesday I mop and spruce the kitchen
    Wednesday I do the bathrooms
Thursday I clean the dining room
Friday I clean the bedroom and take out the trash/recycling/compost
On the weekends I hit the rest of the house based on what seems like it needs work.
After I set up my schedule I found the house seemed much cleaner overall in general.  It was much easier to keep up with this than to do panic cleaning when people came over!

  • I feel like a bit of a slouch saying this, but I have a cleaning lady come once a month. I vacuum once a week (I have a golden retriever - lots of hair), scrub at the grout in the shower (while showering) about once a week, and keep the kitchen clean. Trash and recycling happen as needed as does yard work.

  • My husband vacuums & mops every morning.
I do laundry everyday since hubby accumulates lots of sweaty laundry from his two training sessions a day (Yuck!)
Also in Japan, we hang dry everything on our balcony. So I do that and of course fold afterwards.
Bed sheets/doggy blankets etc are changed once a week.
Trash is taken out 3 times a week (on the allowed pickup days).
Bathrooms are scrubbed down once a week by my husband as well.

Luckily my husband enjoys doing the cleaning and finds it therapeutic so I just let him do his thing.
I pretty much cook and do laundry.....and eat. :P

  • I usually do a big cleaning on Sunday- clean the bathroom, bedrooms and downstairs. It takes about an hour and a half. I do dishes every night and I try to do one load of laundry a night. I vacuum every other day because we have a cat and I don't like hair on the carpet. I spot clean as I go around the house in the evening. The house stays pretty clean this way and I'm not overwhelmed with it since I keep up with it a little at a time during the week.

  • I am nanny and manage my families house without having any service come in so during the week very little gets done at my house. DH works from a home office, so UGH, there is no such thing as having a clean kitchen. When I leave for work it will be clean, but when I get home there will be crumbs on my counters and dishes in the sink. I do the dishes at night but will wipe down the kitchen before I go to work in the AM. Kitchen floor and Bathrooms are wiped down on weekends, maintained so I've never had to deep clean them. We only vacuum every couple of weeks, we don't allow shoes inside so they stay pretty clean. We actually own a carpet cleaner and DH has been great about cleaning the carpets with it once every 6-9 months. Laundry is done Sundays! My biggest pet peeve is DH leaves papers all over the place. He buys every newspaper you can and is fine to read them a month late.

  • Ugh, I wish my house would clean itself. I love my pets but the fur-tumbleweeds drive me crazy if I don't vacuum everyday. Is it sad that my vacuum gets full from it every other day with only 2 dogs and a small cat? At least the rest of my cleaning can run on a weekly basis so long as I set aside the time. Anyone have cleaning motivation to share with those of us who procrastinate . . . .

Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.

  • @paintdadanta I often clean when I'm upset, sad and/or stressed. Most of the time it's my way of coping with and/or controlling a situation when I'm dealing with something that is completely out of my control. Something about being in control and then feeling a sense of accomplishment when I'm done soothes me..am I even making any sense right now?? Not sure if this is motivating but thought I'd put in my two cents. ;)

  • I have a story about cleaning schedules:

In my pre- Mr. Big days, I had a 2000 sq ft craftsman bungalow (5 bed/ 3 bath) - and a different, less laid-back husband. At a certain point, he decided that he did not like how clean I kept the house (I'm pretty sure he spent a lot of time bitching to his secret "best friend" also known as the new wife - but that's another story ;) I also know he was dreadfully unhappy and this was something he could "focus" on). Ex-H decided to make a cleaning schedule. For me. He stuck it on the fridge and proudly told our friends about it. He also made me feel like shit if I did not stay caught up with it. I got lots of pity looks at dinner with said friends . . .

I was working two jobs at that time. I would say that him deciding to not come home one night was one if the best things to happen to me - especially since it led to all of the best things (mr. Bug and Z being prominent on that list).

The thought of a cleaning schedule still makes me want to throw up. If you like them, more power to you - but don't force someone else to follow it.

As for Roomba - DO IT!!!!!!
Two dogs and hard wood flows - roomba allows me to vacuum once a week.

  • Yikes @buggirl72!  No wonder you don't want a schedule and I don't blame you!  Well, this is strictly on my own doing.  I just want to see if I'm willing to keep up with it.  I sat down over the weekend and made it out.  I'm just the type to let things pile up (not dirty stuff) and then I could kick myself for not just keeping up with it.  For instance, I don't mind laundry but hate folding.  Therefore I have four baskets of clean clothes that all need the wrinkle-free-fluff in the dryer everyday before work!  So I'll try it out and see! :)

  • @Megdowntheshore‌ - both dogs tolerate Roomba surprisingly well. The big dog doesn't mind if she bumps into him when he is laying down and even lets her vacuum his tail.
@ktlovess‌ - we have the 770. We bought it at BB&B and used a 20% off coupon.
