Another potty training question

How do you do with nap time?

Reese is in pull ups for nap and bedtime (we call it sleep time underwear; because she gave all her diapers away)

Anyway, she is doing really well and now today she doesn't want to nap. So every 10 minutes or so, she says she needs to try on the potty. Because it has only been a week I don't want to discourage her, and even during the day she will run back and forth about 3 or 4 times in 10 minutes before she actually goes--so she does it awake as well. But I also see this as a stalling/manipulation technique as well to not nap.

How do you handle nap time training?

Re: Another potty training question

  • Can you put a little potty right in her room so she can try there? With my DD she always used the big toilet with a ring, but for motn wake ups I kept the little potty right there because I got tired of taking her all the way to the bathroom. It won't really solve it completely, but if it makes the stall take less time she may give it up as not worth it.
Unfortunately, I wish. For some reason the little stinker thinks her bed is just like her crib and when it is nap time/bedtime REFUSES to get out of it. She flips out and yells, but won't get out of it. I was told she would eventually get over it. And yes, she can get in and out herself and does all the time when playing and grabbing stuff---but no matter how many times we told her that she CAN get out of her bed in the morning to play with toys in her room, or now go to the potty--she won't.

  • Does she actually go when she nap-stalls...?

I'd say something like, "I'm proud of you for trying, but it's time for our bodies to rest. Let's try to potty one last time, and then we'll get another chance after nap."

  • No advice since we sleep trained the same time we day trained but I have all the sympathy in the world.  I would try limiting how many time she can try and then saying its time to sleep and we will try again when you wake up.

  • We struggle with this at bedtime and it is definitely a stall technique - I try to be very uniform in our routine as far as a last call for the potty right before bed, I make a BIG DEAL when she goes and then if she asks to go again talk about what a great job she did already, and sometimes just have to say "you already went, if you wake up and have to go, you can, but right now it's bedtime." I think it just takes time, we are a few months in and she's doing less of this now.

  • We let DD go every time she asked. If it was after the time she was supposed to be down for a nap we took her into the bathroom let her go but didn't talk to her or make eye contact with her. She quickly realized she wasn't going to get attention and stopped.

Yes and no. She will try every 5 minutes for about 15 minutes and then on the 3rd or 4th time actually go. But she does this when she is awake as well, I just don't think she realizes the sensation of actually going yet, so she is in and out of the bathroom attempting to go until she actually does.
