I'm in the early stages of starting a free Shakespeare in the park for my city for next summer. Dh and I were debating which shoe would be most audience friendly to draw a big crowd, especially since this would be the first year having it. So give me your opinions ladies. Which one would you most want to come see?

Hehe, I immediately thought of Ed Sullivan "It's a really big shoe tonight!"

I voted Midsummer Night's Dream.  I know the others, except for 12th Night.

Cool idea, by the way!  My town used to do this when I was in high school/college and I loved going.
  • Midsummer is not my favorite but I think it has the widest appeal.

  • Perhaps to get it started Romeo and Juliet would be a great one.  Since most people have at least heard of it, if not seen it in some form or another.  Then, once they get the bug, they might be likely to return.

    Just a thought.

    I love SITP
  • I agree that MSND is the most audience friendly, which makes me a little sad, lol

  • MSND has both the broadest appeal and it shows really well in a park cause the audience is sitting outside in nature.

  • I like Twelfth night but that is strictly a personal opinion. Although, a comedy might be appealing.

Would you be able to do it inThe fall as well to draw attention from surrounding high schools in the area as a field.trip?

  • No I know it is a comedy that's why I said it mig ht be more than personal opinion and could actually be appealing as well. Sorry I worded it poorly
  • Much Ado About Nothing.

A fun comedy! A Mid-summer is done more frequently. I also like the 12th night though....

I really like The Winter's Tale, but it not as well known. I would definitely vote for a comedy first to get people hooked...then you can toss in some of the tragedies later.

  • I definitely think MSND will be your biggest draw to start off.  I, personally, love Taming of the Shrew, but it is not for everyone.

We did that one in college. Orson Scott Card abridged and directed it, and I did the lights. It's a really funny. Show if done well.
