Progesterone level of 112?

I was scheduled to have a procedure done on July 17th so I went in for the pre-op blood work on July 15th and to my surprise found out I was pregnant! I was only 3 weeks and 1 day at the time, but they sent me for a quantitative HCG test two days later (the day my procedure would have been.) My HCG came back normal, but my progesterone was only a 1, and then I had some bleeding. My OB's nurse told me I had probably miscarried but they put me on oral progesterone (that I only took for one day) and I tested again exactly a week later on the following Thursday. The results showed my progesterone went up from 1 to 112! Is that normal? The nurse said my levels are now in the range for a healthy 5 week pregnancy.. I'm so confused. I went from being told I miscarried to now being told I didn't. I'm still cramping and bleeding but now it's just brown, old blood. Anyone else ever have a similar situation? I can't find anyone online ever saying their progesterone was this high.

Re: Progesterone level of 112?

  • What are your HCG levels doing?  I am not one to encourage unnecessary doctor visits or panic, but I'd be concerned about a molar pregnancy and ask for a follow up ultrasound.

  • @LnR70707 July 17th: HCG - 187 Progesterone -1 then on July 24th: HCG - 402 Progesterone - 112. I know they're not quite as high as they would like them to be (HCG), but they're still in the acceptable range. I was scheduled to do another quantitative blood test this morning and went ahead and got that out of the way. Hopefully I'll get those results back this afternoon or tomorrow. What was crazy was that I was actually scheduled to have a laproscopic procedure done to possibly diagnose me with endometriosis when they called and told me I was pregnant. Now I'm in the middle of trying to switch OB's (this is my first pregnancy) and I haven't actually seen any doctor at all since I found out. I've just spoke with the nurses over the phone about the multiple times I've started bleeding since I found out. Super frustrating!

  • I am sorry, but plugging those HCG levels into an online calculator puts you at a doubling time of around 150 hrs.  Normal doubling time is 48-72 hours.  That nurse would be getting an earful from me because she is obviously clueless.

  • @LnR70707 Update: They finally did an ultrasound this morning and just as I suspected, I miscarried at five weeks. But yes you better believe the nurse got an earful! So much so that I am now in the process of switching OB's for the next time! Thank you for your response though, I appreciate it and plan to keep using this board, seems to be full of helpful people and hopefully I can share some insight after this experience. Thanks again!
