Any Other Side Sleeping Babies?

DS has been trying to roll on his side in the crib for some weeks now. Tonight when I went to check on him he had finally succeeded and was rolled onto his side sound asleep.
I'm going to ask the ped what his recommendation is tomorrow, but should I stress about this and roll him onto his back or let him sleep how he's comfortable? I read there is a slight increased risk of SIDS but if others who have more experience can either confirm my fears or talk me down from FTM paranoia I'd appreciate it!

  • My LO sleeps on his side. My ped says that's ok once they're able to roll by themselves. Like Swerb said, you can't prevent side-sleeping unless you plan to stand guard by the crib all night long.

  • Just let LO sleep like people said. My DS rolls all over the place. I think I would go nuts trying to get him to stay on his back.

  • The pediatrician I use has always been okay with back or side sleeping.

My DD slept on her side for one night then started rolling all the way to her tummy to sleep. Like another poster said, unless you are going to stand there and watch them all night and keep flipping them back over there is nothing you can do. But you definitely have to stop swaddling.

My issue now is DD gets herself on her tummy, sleeps ok for a while, but can't roll back over. So she is waking up multiple times. I have been trying to do more tummy time with her and help her roll to her back but she has no interest.

ETA: you are supposed to continue to put them on their back to sleep. It is kind of silly though because DD rolls herself over as soon as I put her down.

My baby frequently rolls to the side but he does it to face me since we bed share.

    This.
  • Okay. Thank you ladies!!! Y'all are right. Left him on his side, went to feed him this morning and he was hanging out on his tummy! First time he's officially rolled back to belly. We were still swaddling him loosely with arms out so I guess we will take him out of the swaddle completely.

FTM paranoia cured... For now. ;)
