dry cheeks

Hi!  Just found my way over here to the Bump from another forum site.  Quick intro... I'm a FTM still figuring out this whole motherhood thing :) . DD was born in late May.  Looking forward to getting to know you all.

On to the question, DD has dry cheeks.  They're not red, not flaky, just dry and a little rough to the touch - and the only place she has these dry patches is on her cheeks. We use Johnson and Johnson baby wash, shampoo, and lotion (shower gifts), but when I tried putting the J&J lotion on her cheeks to combat the dryness, it gave her red bumps that took a few days to clear up.  Do any of you have a go-to mild lotion that you use on baby's face that doesn't give you any trouble?  Thanks!

Re: dry cheeks

  • Curel Itch Defense lotion. It's technically not approved for babies under 6 months, but I use it on DD's face and body with no issues. It's the same lotion I've used on DS's eczema for over 2 years and my own sensitive skin for 4 years. I love it.

  • We use Baby Aveeno for Eczema. DD broke our with baby acne and this lotion was gentle on her.
  • DS2 also has this. You can't even look at him and tell but if you touch his face, it feels so dry and rough. I have been using Aquaphor and also Aveeno for eczema. Helps tremendously! I have always had great results from both of those.

Thanks for the replies! I know I have an Aquaphor sample around here somewhere.  I'll give that a try and if it doesn't work, I'll try some of the other suggestions.

  • Coconut oil! It cleared up both my dry skin and LO's in about 2 days. It also goes a long ways and since it's food grade I'm not so worried about her rubbing her face and sucking on her hands. We use it for her facial acne, dry skin, and cradle cap and it's the only thing that seems to work on her sensitive skin. Also makes a good rash guard.

  • @lica001‌ Is your pedi not aware that Aveeno is a J&J brand? Or did he just mean don't use the regular pink J&J?
