  • I said 25% since she uses both fork and spoon but her efficiency with them is terrible so she usually tries and eats a lot with her hands.  She can spoon easy things like yogurt and likes to stab pieces of chicken, etc, but most of her food gets to her mouth in other ways. :)

  • DD very rarely uses her hands anymore. I guess I mean when she eats something that I would use silverware with. Sometimes she won't eat until we give her silverware. I would say tho she has gotten significantly better within the last couple weeks. Before she was a mess.

  • DD loves to use silverware and is usually very good at it but occasionally she decides she doesn't want to.

I said SS.  I always give him the appropriate silverware, but he likes to hold it in one hand and eat with the other.  Occasionally, if we put the food on the utensil, he'll actually bring it to his mouth.  Overall though I think he finds it much more expedient to use his hands.

  • DS loves using silverware. He has been using them since he moved to the toddler room at DC (at 13 months), because they teach the kids. He also learned to drink out if a regular cup at DC and now hates if I give him a sippy cup.

  • Giving my LO silverware often makes what would have been a refused meal a successful one. For some reason, everything is more fun/delicious if she can feed herself with a fork :) She isn't perfect at it though and does revert back to using her hands at times

  • I put 50% because we offer it and she'll usually use it for a few bites and then use her hand and then the spoon/fork. She's definitely not an expert yet but she prefers to at least have the option of using silverware.
  • DS has been eating solids for a year now and still isn't that interested in using a fork for anything other than banging on his plate. He eats with his hands sometimes but he likes to be clean. He does not mind at all being spoonfed like a baby.

I hope he just grows up and starts doing it and that this isn't something that becomes an issue.

  • DS LOVES the fork. He eats better when he can use a fork. We're still working on the spoon, he hasn't figured out how to not dump it every time yet. :P
  • I try to give Lil D  a fork every feeding time and also explain to him what it is used for. It turns out to be him holdin the fork and eating with his other hand

  • DS insists on silverware, but he certainly hasn't mastered the use of it yet.  He also insists on a napkin.  Poor table manners and general rudeness are huge pet peeves for DH and I, so I remember reading something about developing good table manners in children, and they talked about giving them silverware and a napkin with each meal, so they know what to do with it once they do become more coordinated and capable instead of just springing it on them once they're old enough.  He's getting really good with the fork, but the spoon is still a little tricky for him.  However, my sister taught him to stick olives and raspberries on his finger tips, so that is how he prefers to eat those foods.
