First Weekend Away WITH Baby

Wish us luck! We are heading to Michigan (about 2 hours from Chicago) to stay at a friend's lake house for the weekend. I have a little anxiety about it right now as I try to pack! It's a bit different packing now that there is a little one involved! It's a very laid back trip with 2 other couples, one of which is my sister and brother-in-law and 2 nieces who are 7 and 10 so it's a kid friendly trip. The friend who owns the house is really sweet and loves kids and knew what he was getting into when he invited us, haha! But I just worry that my little guy won't sleep well and will keep everyone up! Also, wondering what we will do when everyone is skiing and tubing? I am bringing an activity mat so we have something to do. They also have a pontoon boat and I am looking forward to bringing him on that (just bought the cutest tiny life vest at Bass Pro!) My husband doesn't seem worried at all, I wish I could be like that!!

I know I am just over worrying and it will be fun. This will be good practice for our longer trip to Florida in another month!

Good luck! You'll all be fine

we've been going to my in laws lake house since my daughter was 3weeks old. I way overpack for her everytime but it makes me less anxious when I have plenty of onesies and diapers for her. Just make sure you bring something where you can set her down in other than what she sleeps in-bouncy chair, rocker, something. I didn't the first time and I never made that mistake again. Have fun!

@Katey3223 - Good call! I was debating if I should bring the Rock N Play or the bouncy seat. He sometimes sleeps in the RnP after the middle of night wake up so I am leaning towards that. Do you boat with her daughter?

Oh yea, also anxiety about getting my period! I am almost 12 weeks pp and swear that it will probably choose this weekend when I am in a bathing suit to show up! Better add girl supplies to the packing list! Haha!

Sounds like a fun trip. When we traveled with DD1, DH and I usually end up squeezing both our stuff in a carry-on size suitcase while DD gets an entire huge suitcase!

Yup we were out on the boat with her. Just had the canopy up and a hat on her head. She looked pitiful in the life jacket!

looked like she couldn't move in it. But she slept almost the whole time anyway, we were out for about 2hrs.

I was anxious for our first trip with DD too (we had a 6hr drive and then 4 nights in a hotel when she was 6wks), but as other PPs have said, you'll be fine and then so much less worried for the next trip bc you'll be an expert! Good luck!

We just did a 6-turned-10 hour drive to Maine from NJ and stayed a week. Went great! You'll be fine! I packed all of our clothes (mine, DH, LO) in one suitcase bc I knew we'd have tons of other bags to worry about with diapers, toys, etc.

Update - Just got home from the lake and everyone was right. It was a super fun trip! I packed WAY too much though. But I guess better to be over prepared than under. He had his first boat ride and loved it. It was perfect weather, a little cool and overcast so we didn't have to worry about him over heating. Here is a pic in his life vest. I was so happy that he didn't hate it! Haha!
