Retained placenta

Anyone else have this happen? Please share your story if you did or know someone who did. I'm very curious to see if anyone has corrected the problem with misoprostol.

My story: After a month of bleeding, I finally decided I wasn't having my period and went to the doctor yesterday. Turns out there's some retained placenta. I can't believe I went this long with no infection or milk supply issues! I'm also kinda mad at myself because deep down I knew this wasn't my period but kept waiting to see if it improved on its own. I didn't realize how dangerous it could be to wait because I felt fine this whole time. Anyway, my doc offered a D&C or misoprostol. I opted for the miso and inserted it this morning. Now I'm waiting to pass the tissue but nothing's happening yet. If it doesn't pass this weekend I'll have to do the D&C.

Update: the miso didn't work on the 1.5" piece of placenta hanging out inside of me. going in for a d&c tomorrow! Thanks for the well wishes and sharing :)

    1st BFP-8/17/12!  Missed Miscarriage discovered @ 8 week US.  D&C.
    2nd BFP-2/13/13!  Blighted Ovum discovered @ 8 week US. Natural miscarriage.
    3rd BFP-5/22/13!  By early June, progesterone plummeting.  Another loss.
    August 2013 - started Donor Egg process, but surprise BFP with my own eggs.

    I had retained placenta after my missed miscarriage and D&C. 2 months after the D&C, I was at work one day and suddenly started gushing blood. I went to the ER, had an ultrasound and was diagnosed. They said at that point cytotec wouldn't work and I would just keep bleeding, so I went for another D&C that day. It's really not a bad surgery at all. Quick, no incision, and for me no pain.

    Jess & Adam, married 2009, precious Audrey born in 2011. BFP 1/6/13, 6-wk MMC discovered at 9 wks 2/11/13. D&C 2/18/13, second D&C 4/23/13 for retained placenta.
    BFP 8/24/13!! EDD 5/1/14, delivered healthy and sweet Zoey Leanne on 5/5/14 by repeat c-section.

    Happened to me this pregnancy. I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks after a lot of clots and cramping. The placenta was still attached to my uterus so it was still getting blood flow. I opted for the d&c and I'm glad I did. My dr said it was the size of a golf ball and never would have passed through my cervix. It didn't hurt my milk either but after it was out I got engorged and an oversupply of milk from a second oxytocin release. Good luck!
