Gas relief

I thought I saw this posted somewhere, but when I searched nothing came up.

For those who have gassy LOs, have you tried gripe water? If so, what brand and did it work? Any allergic reactions noted?

I just bought colic calm, but now I am nervous to use it! I am definitely going to try new bottles and formula first, but if that doesn't help my little guy I wanted a back up. TIA!

Re: Gas relief

  • We just bought some last night at Walmart. The brand is called Mommys Bliss. I've only given it to her once so I'll let you know if it seems to help! Hope our LO's bellies feel better. I know it's miserable for everyone :/

  • I think it might have started on the Night Crew thread & then there was one called Any Gassy Babies or something like that.

Someone suggested looking up the youtube video called I love You infant massage & someone also suggested to me to slow down DD's feedings so she wouldn't gulp so fast. Now I let her eat, burp, eat, burp, eat & burp a 2-3 oz bottle. It helped A LOT. Also I get better results by sitting her up to burp. If she's on my shoulder she falls asleep.

What formula is your baby on? I'd try some other things first instead of changing formula. My babe cried for 2 days when we switched formula. It can take up to a week for them to adjust too. You might want to talk to your pediatrician first.

  • PS - sorry, I told you everything under the sun except about gripe water. Lol. From what I gather gripe water is more for digestive issues. But we have given DD gripe water with success to calm hiccups & etc.

  • With DD1, we used Mommy's Bliss Gripe Water.  This seriously was a lifesaver!

  • @chelsey33‌ thanks! Let me know if it does any good. It's definitely sad watching them struggle :(

@Skeemer‌ I knew I saw info about it before and if it was on the night crew thread no wonder I don't remember what the recommendations were! Thanks for the info and I will have to look up that video. He had been on similac sensitive for the past week and a half. He only gets half his feedings from formula and the other half breast milk. I had no clue switching could be hard on them and just got done giving one bottle of Gerber gentle before I saw this. I hope I just didn't open up another can of worms with that! When I talked to the pedi before starting formula, she didn't mention anything but using a gentle or sensitive formula since it's easier to digest. I think I will call tomorrow before doing anything else like the gripe water.

If I do end up using the water I might return the colic calm and try mommy's bliss.
  • We have been using Mommys Bliss for about a week now and it works great...
  • We switched to enfamil gentlease and put the recommended dosage of gas drops in the bottle. It really seems to help him through his discomfort when eating. I swear by the target brand up & up infant gas drops, they've been a lifesaver for both my boys.

  • @alysson.lawless‌ where in target did you find gas drops? I have looked all over my target and I can't find them.
  • Our pedi told me not to switch formula for gas problems. He said it's totally normal until 4 months or so. You might want to ask your LO's doctor what they think! We used Gripe Water one night and it did nothing to calm DS down. But every baby is different! We used Mommy's Bliss.

One of my twins has TERRIBLE gas issues. I JUST think I got them under control (which is why I haven't posted here in forever... I have been getting zero sleep bc of it- and so has my son, poor baby :( ) anyway I highly reccomend Little a Remedies Gas Drops and I also just started using Little Remedies Gripe Water. I give him gas drops everytime he eats and gripe water when nothing else works. I also bought this thing called The Windi, which I hate doing but it seems to have opened up the area that helps him to release gas on his own. Also I give a bit of warm breastmilk in a bottle at night when desperate (they drink formula at night) bc the pediatrician said BM can help move their bowels, & finally put him in a little vibrating baby seat to help move the gas bubbles along too. I've tried infant massage and it doesn't work for him. I also switched to Similac Soy formula which I think helps too. Good luck!

In the pharmacy area, they don't keep them in the baby section. I think it was with the adult gas relief options. I asked the pharmacy and they pointed them out for me. @kweaver123‌

Just to chime in, you'll also find Gripe Water by the gas drops at Target if anyone is interested in that.

  • @alysson.lawless‌ thank you! I have up and ended up going to a completely different store but I'm at target all the time so it's easier to just get it there.
  • I bought gripe water and my son hated it. I also didn't like hearing (and reading on the bottle) that baby could have a severe allergic reaction. The few times I used it, it did nothing. I ended up buying Little Remedies Gas Relief and that was a life saver!

  • The only thing that seems to work for my dd the best is giving her a bottle. Once she starts drinking the bottle a ton of gas just comes out. Is this normal? I have tried everything else and this seems to give her the most relief. Any ideas?
