Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Frustated

I'm just so frustrated. DS is 9 mo. He has a very happy laid back demeanor. He is still not crawling, cruising, changing position himself or anything. He is usually happy where I put him and doesn't seem to get frustrated enough to initiate being mobile. If he is on his tummy he will moving around a little by rolling and pushing himself back. He loves to stand but he is too short to pull himself up on the furniture and hasn't even tried it. He can get himself from sitting to tummy (none too gracefully) but hasnt even attempted going from tummy to sitting. He doesn't pivot while he is sitting either.

I think part of the problem is I give him a few toys at once. So if one of the toys get out of reach he can have a different toy. Should I just give him one toy at a time? Any other tips?

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm always driving myself crazy over something!

  • When your LO started to crawl did they do it from their tummy or from sitting?

He sounds normal. Why are you frustrated?

  • I understand it's hard to not be concerned-especially if you have friends with LO's or even just people asking you if they are doing such and such.

My twins are 9 months as well so I have a very good example right in front of me that they learn at different paces. Our little girl took forever to roll over, but has since gone to sitting position on her own, to crawling  and pulling up and now cruising. Our little guy is just starting to think about crawling. But he does other things much better than her, like hold his bottle, pincer grasp, feed himself bites of food and is more vocal than she is.

You should have your 9 month pedi apt coming up (if you haven't already) so definitely make a list and ask the dr.

  • All of this sounds very normal as PP have already said so I wouldn't be concerned. Bring it up to your pedi if you are concerned for the extra reassurance.

A toy that got my LO to move around a little was this fisher price go baby go snail - he also loved to look in the mirror.

  • Just keep giving him as much time on the floor as possible.  And maybe don't give him his toys but put them out of reach so he has to roll to get them.
I find every time I start worrying about my LO not doing something, a switch just seems to flip one day and he starts doing something new.  So just try to be patient.
  • Honestly you know your kid better than us. If you are really concerned you should bring it up with your pedi. If the pedi isn't concerned, you should relax and try to enjoy your kids pace.
