This is our first child and we are both very anxious to find out what we will be having. I have an appointment on the 14th (I'll be 17wks) for a check up and more blood work.
My OB doesn't do a sex check until 20 weeks but my husband really wants to do a voluntary ultrasound during this next appointment. It's $100, which isn't terrible, but we have to pay it out of pocket. I don't mind waiting another 3 weeks but my husband and both of our families really want to know. Don't get me wrong I'm not against finding out early but I'm afraid that it may be a waist of money because there isn't a guarantee that our little one will show the goods (I know there is no guarantee at 20wks either but my OB said it's usually easier to determine and would be more accurate).
So my questions are: how many of you had to have multiple ultrasounds before your doctor/midwife was able to determine the sex?
Have any of you had the sex correctly predicted at 17weeks?
TIA
Re: Questions for STM
And honestly, the 3 weeks of waiting is nothing when you consider you still have 20 more weeks to wait.

My doctor does an ultrasound at every appointment, and she tried to tell me the sex early this week (17 wks), but LO kept the umbilical cord between his/her legs the entire time! We're hoping for better luck in 2 weeks at our anatomy scan! It definitely is hard to wait....but patience is a virtue, right?
@LadyXaverian he's just really excited. We both agreed that we wouldn't do our registry or buy anything big until we found out what we were having. He has been doing a lot if research for safe strollers, car seats, etc. So I think all the research is making him even more anxious to find out.
