GTKY: What Are You Reading

What are you currently reading? I want to hear even if your answer is The Bump daily.

Right now I am reading Piper Kerman's memoir "Orange Is The New Black", and so far it is good although not as risque as the Netflix show.

  • I just finished the third book in the Discovery of Witches trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I am also reading the biography Unbroken and it's really good!
  • I just started to read "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell on the recommendation of a friend. Good so far, but deals with statistics and stuff, so you have to be in the mood for it. I'm also reading "the Bone Season" which is okay so far, but not as good as I want it to be :-S

I just got the third book from the Maze Runner series for my guilty pleasure read and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil for my book club.

  • @wedding06 exactly why I posted this.  I need to make a reading list.

@PharmTechMom1216 same here.  I used to read so much but now it is taking much longer to finish a book.  I try to read after I put him to bed, but I fall asleep much faster than I used to.

  • The newest Outlander book, though having a baby is seriously cramping my reading style lol

This is what I'm reading too! I think the only reason I've read as much of it as I have is sneaking a chapter or two in on my lunch break at work!

  • Harry Potter, again... I should probably be embarrassed to say this is the 9th time I've read the series, but I'm not. I still love it. I did read Courtney Robertson's book from the bachelor franchise as a guilty pleasure book. I finished it in about 3 hours. If you have any interest in the show and what goes on behind the scenes, it's a super quick and easy read but still entertaining.

I've had Gone Girl on my list for ages and need to get the eBook reserved from the library.

  • I am reading Gone Girl for myself, and Percy Jackson - The Titans Curse to the boys!
    I loved Gone Girl.
I have also read her other two books, Sharp Objects and Dark Places!
I really liked Gone Girl but have been hesitant for some reason to read her other books. Were they worth it, @connorsmama2006?

  • I use Goodreads too, but mostly so my sisters and I can compare and recommend books to each other. But it is handy to look up the next book in a series or mark books in your "to read" queue so you don't forget.

@quartermisses‌ I didn't know you were a writer! What do you write??

  • Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Love, love, love it so far!

  • I do audiobooks, but I'm currently listening to the second book in a fantasy series called the Gentleman Bastards series, by Scott Lynch.

  • @PinkDahlia44 I liked Dark Places more than Sharp Objects, but they are both really good. I believe Dark Places is also being made into a movie.
I loved all 3. It is so funny to hear familiar places/cities!

  • I just finished the last Outlander book. Loved that series.

I'm STILL waiting on the third book in The Passage series.

HBO has a new series called The Leftovers that is based on a book I may look into that. It's going to be a busy week though, so I don't want to start anything.

I'm reading a hilarious parenting book called Shitty Mom. Next up my neighbour and I are swapping books and I will be reading Sippy Cups are not for Chardonnay.
  • I just finished the Divergent trilogy, which was about 2 books too long. I wasn't super thrilled with them but hate not finishing. Next up is The Fault in Our Stars.

Make sure you have plenty of tissues available. I cried from the beginning of that book until the end. Ditto the movie (which I think was even worse bc now I have a son). DH also shed a few tears at the movie.

I am currently wading through "Les Miserables". So far not impressed with his writing style.

  • The Cuckoo's Calling. I like it but it's hard to read when watching a baby all day. I'm easily distracted and miss whole pages and have to reread.
  • I'm also readin The Fault in our Stars. I have up on the 3rd Divergent book. I just wasn't into it.

Impressive @hartsl01‌ ! I've read them 3-4 times a piece. 9 is impressive. It's been per a year since I've read any of them again though.

Apparently I'm made of stone. I didn't cry once reading the book.
@-) <--- this is my face. I am shocked.

But, to be fair, I also cried during just the previews (THE PREVIEWS) for Should I Stay, so maybe I'm just a crybaby.

  • Orange is the new black here as well. I've never seen the show, but I'm enjoying the book so far.
  • I haven't read The Fault In Our Stars for that exact reason-I'm a big baby and don't want to cry.

I loved the first Divergent book, but I agree that it lost something along the way.

@taylormarie923 I watched the show before I realized there was a memoir it was based on.  I'm noticing a lot of the lines and character traits from the book followed to the show, but of course, the show took great creative liberties.

I didn't like "The Fault In Our Stars." I thought the author seemed to be trying too hard for tears and I am a smoosh, usually. I plan to try the "Divergent" series. I reread "Lisey's Story" last summer! Of course I own about 95% of SK's books.

Oh yeah and forgot! I am gearing up to finally finish the last "Outlander" book (which failed to hold my pregnancy brain captive) so I can read the new one either just out or coming out. The first 3 are my favorite and I am worried about watching movie....afraid it will be a mess.

I read a lot and very fast in case you can't tell. Helps to have a child who enjoys his 3-5am wake ups/feedings.

  • @Inn2‌ , I am curious about the outlander series bc everyone seems to love it. It appeals to me in the fantasy aspect, but I'm not sure if I'm sold on the history part. If you have time, I would love to know more about it...

  • For those who like vampire books that aren't for Tweens, I was recommended to read a book called A Hidden Fire: Elemental Mysteries Book One by Elizabeth Hunter. The first book was free on kindle so I read it, and I just finished the 3rd book tonight! The first book had a few typos, but I thought the writing was excellent in all three so far, especially the dialogue. If you like sexy vampire stories w/ a good plot deft check these out!

  • I'm reading The Book of Life. Okay. I'm re-reading it. Lol. It's the third book in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. So good! Probably my favorite series ever.
  • Does anyone have the Good Reads app? The librarian told me about it and I downloaded it but haven't used it yet.

    Eta: wording

Yep! I don't use it as much as I used to, but I've rated around 100-150 books I think.
