Nursing Positions for the Older Baby

I've always done cross-cradle with DD. She's 7.5 months now and last week at the baseball game I didn't want to bring my Boppy pillow so I nursed her sitting up and straddling me. It worked well for the circumstances we were in, but I feel like I'm using my hands even more when we're in this position. Just out of curiosity--what position do you typically nurse in as the baby gets older? Is there a certain point where LO gets too big for cross-cradle?

Leah just kind of lays across my lap and finds her own position. Sometimes she sits up facing me. Sometimes she reclines with her back to me and her head to the side (awkward, but she likes to be able to see, and now I reach that far. :(( ). It's gotten quite aerobatic.

this made me laugh @casey78! Stretch Armstrong over here too

  • After a year of breastfeeding, it's amazing the positions Ty can eat in and the angle my boob can go! Scary!
  • Right now DD sort of sits on me and nurses so she can look around.  We just started this.  With DD1 this was a very short phase, and then she went back to lying on me to nurse...until she was 21 months.
  • I feel like it's hard to nurse her while she's sitting up straddling me because my boob (I only feed her on the right side as the left side is shut down) isn't in a position near her mouth so I have to lift it up for her which is why it takes more hands to nurse as opposed to her laying down. Maybe when she's older she can position it herself.

I would love to feed in the Ergo, but I don't have a lot of practice so I'm not confident in it at all. I wish someone could show me some tips!
