I used to live in DC where Trader Joes, Harris Teeter, and Whole Foods ruled with an iron fist. When we moved to Texas, I fell in Lurve with Central Market. Then they opened a Trader Joes...and now a World Market...and I thought, "what town needs a Central Market, Trader Joes, Sprouts, AND Whole Foods?!?" So, poll, what's your fav?

What are all these "crunchy" stores you speak of?
Olga: Chole survives primarily on bats' blood, which we buy at the local Piggly Wiggly

I buy most my meat at a Kroger brand store (qfc). They are more of a "regular" grocery store, but they have a good organic selection for just about anything. I also buy 1/8 cow portions from local farmers, shop farmers markets.
The other chain we have up here (in addition to all the mom and pop natural shops), is PCC. Like whole foods and central markets love child. PCC gives kids under 18 free produce to eat while in store-anything you want.
Then next on my list is central market. It's located in a really cute small town/out door shopping area, and we like to go there for walks.
ETA: I still probably like CM better, if only bc there's a Wegmans in State College, and I wonder, "what kind of college student has the kind of money to shop at Wegmans?"
Andplusalso, I am of course boycotting Wegmans now until they build a location closer to my BFF, @Lee81.

Kroger is just a grocery store IMO.
I guess it's Seattle area only. I thought it was bigger, since we have more pcc than whole foods as central market combined.
Qfc is owned by Kroger, but not Kroger...we don't have a plain Kroger. Not really sure what they are like, I just know they exist...the qfc in my area is prob 40% natural/organic, 60 conventional.
Also $$$, though.
Edit bc part of my post disappeared: there is one where Hulen meets I-30 in Ft. Worth.

@Lee81 I thought there was a Wegmans in Berks County, it opened when I was an undergrad there. I just looked it up though and they must have closed. Maybe the area wasn't ready for wegmans in 1999.
And Wegmans needs to come here. I miss it.
Eleventy! Where did you go to school, @WhenInRome11??
I wonder if you are thinking of a different store? The only Wegman's here is a little country deli that definitely has no association with the grocery jerks who make me drive to Malvern or Downingtown or Allentown to stuff my face with their delicious buffet.
I must be thinking of another store.
When I lived in Hawaii, we had a place called Down To Earth and it was basically my favorite place ever!!
I am feeling spoiled since I have all three of these stores so close to me.

LO then (2 days) and now (1 year)
Does the Amish grocery store down the road from me count as crunchy??
Other than that, I would have to drive about an hour up the interstate to find either a Trader Joes or Whole Foods. I still have to drive 30 minutes to Kroger to do my grocery shopping. They do have a nice selection of "crunchy" items, though.
