AW: Officially weaned!

edited July 2014 in January 2013 Moms
So after almost 18 months DD is weaned!

For the past month or so she had cut down to only nursing once before bed. However, I volunteered for Vacation Bible School at my church last week and my husband was the one who put her to bed most nights, thus she didn't get that nursing session. And she didn't seem to mind at all. We've been slowly cutting back sessions over the past few months so I didn't have any pain luckily!

I do have mixed emotions however. I'm very happy to have my body "back" and have a little more freedom but I feel like she's officially no longer a "baby" and I do miss that special time we had together. Anyone else feel that way after weaning?

On the positive side this comes at the perfect time--I am getting my IUD removed next week and we're hoping to start TTC soon. So no longer nursing gives me some peace of mind. However the whole weaning process is definitely bittersweet.

  • I'm glad it's gone fairly easy for you. As someone who was unable to breast feed...you will find other ways to be close to her! I promise! Course this is a difficult age, they are so active and if she is anything like J, she is really independent. That makes snuggles really special when they do happen.

    Yay for prepping for TTC!

  • Congrats!!!  And also kudos for making it 18 months, you did so much good for your DD!  I am glad it went smoothly, it really is emotional ending, isn't it?  I think I felt sadder than my DD did.  It probably took me a couple months to fully grasp that I was no longer doing it (watching different foods, caffeine intake, etc.).  Good luck TTC!

  • How awesome that you were able to make it to 18 months! I think that I had a worse time emotionally than DS when I weaned. (I weaned to start TTC again.) But I've found different ways to snuggle with him and don't really miss it anymore.

I hope that we both can BF a new LO soon!

  • DD weaned at 18 months and I was pretty sad about it. I know if I hadn't started working we would have nursed longer.
