Oh my!! (update in comments)

It has been quite the day.....Previously I posted I was having really bad rib and back pain. After getting very little sleep last night, I finally gave in and called my OB.

After blood tests and a diagnostic ultrasound, turns out I have multiple gallstones that my doctor doesn't think will pass on their own. Meet with a surgeon tomorrow afternoon. (Baby is apparently unphased and doing well).

Anybody know of someone who has had to deal with surgery during pregnancy? Any happy thoughts would be great too!

  • No experience, but hope you feel better soon!!

  • My friend had a tumor removed while 10 weeks pregnant, full anesthesia and all (mom & baby wouldn't have been okay if they didn't take it out then) and she just gave birth to a 9lb healthy baby boy. I wouldn't worry too much!
  • Just found out that im having gall bladder issues myself.  Doctor wants to see if we can wait until after delivery to have it out but who knows what will happen.

  • Well today is the big day.... The surgeon decided it would be best to take out my gallbladder right away. However can't eat or drink anything for 12 hours prior to surgery. Nothing like torture :) Wish me and the baby luck :)
  • Good luck!

  • i hope your surgery went well!  i hear gallbladder problems are actually pretty common during pregnancy and will sometimes result in removal.  i have a friend who had to have her gallbladder out when she was 20-ish weeks pregnant.  her son is very healthy and will be 5 in september.

  • I hope everyhing went well!  My SO's mom had to have emergency surgery while pregnant with him and he came out perfectly fine.  =)

  • Good luck! Doctors know what they are doing. Don't stress yourself too much about it.
