Multiples

holy moly the headaches!

Quick recap-

I'm 12w5d pregnant with quads. I have an appointment this afternoon for a check up to see how the babies are and to do the early screening for defects.

My question: what can I do about these headaches?!  It seems every morning I wake up, I have a headache and it lasts all day, sometimes until I go to sleep. Some days it becomes more of a migraine- others it just throbs all day. I do have  history of migrianes, which had been largely reduced in the past when on medication for my allergies (Singulair.) Since being pregnant, I Haven't taken any of that because it's not considered safe.  I intend on asking the doctor today, but wanted to get any feedback as well.

Any other multiples mothers struggle with headaches throughout the pregnancy? Did you find that anything helped?  I've been wary to take tylenol but don't know how much longer I can last like this. I'm still trying to work and the headaches interfere with trying to concentrate.

Re: holy moly the headaches!

  • I had to take Tylenol and drink two small cups of regular home brewed coffee. Getting some caffiene definitely helped me. For the sinus aspect I take Claritin... which doesn't work as well as my usual meds but it helps. I made sure the Tylenol and Claritin were approved as safe..... Some pain I had to suffer through, but it took the edge off.

  • I had headaches in both my pregnancies, but they were worse when I had my singleton.  They would last for 3-4 days and would be almost migraines, but not quite.  They would go away for a day or two then come right back.  I would do a combo of tylenol and caffeine, which worked will with my twin pregnancy.  I ended up doing acupuncture with my first pregnancy and it really helped me get rid of them.

  • Same here tylenol and caffeine! I'm not a coffee drinker so I would drink a pepsi.  I didn't get them daily though.

  • Have you tried increasing your water intake? When I was pregnant with my twins, I would drink a large glass of water if I got a headache, and it usually went away. There were a few times it didn't help, and that's when the tylenol caffeine combo helped.
  • Tylenol and caffein was what worked for me.

Thanks everyone. The doctor agreed to try claritin and tylenol to see how that helps. I do drink a lot of water---I try to get around 90 oz or 3 liters daily.

I am considering having a cup of sweet tea- hopefully the caffeine and sugar combo will help.

I am also hoping that entering into the 2nd trimester will help!

@happy_yahoo_personator- originally my RE suggested I not take the singular since it's mainly for severe allergies, if I can help it.  So far, I've not had any major issues besides the headaches. I've just been too scared to take ANYTHING!

    Thank you all!
  • Thanks for this question! The last four days I've been getting the worst headaches. I'm trying to drink more water and liquids & I think it's helping. Good to know I can try caffiene and tylenol tho!! Thanks!

  • I had headaches about 5 times a week with varying degrees of intensity but around 19 weeks they have (knock on wood!) pretty much completely disappeared.  Wish I had some advice! I usually just went to bed.
