I'm at my parents' for two weeks with Tumaini, and they've insisted on potty training her. According to them, babies should be trained before 18 months or else they'll start having urinary tract infections and bla bla bla (I don't believe this is true). I don't think she's ready. She does great, she hasn't pooped in a diaper since we got here and is peeing less and less on the floor and more and more on the potty. BUT she cries every single time we put her on the potty and it breaks my heart. I tried to talk to them and explain that I don't feel she's ready, but everytime, they just get upset and say I've already waited far too long.

I guess my confession for the day is that I've given up, I don't feel I can win against them and I don't know how to make it stop without causing a big fight and having to leave, so I'm just going to let my sweet baby girl cry every time she needs to go on the potty for the next week, knowing very well that we'll probably go back to diapers when we get home, because I'm not going to make her cry every time she needs to pee or poop. I'm hating on myself for being such a wimp.

This was me, but I was mostly terrified of another pregnancy. I'll forever be grateful for this unplanned pregnancy. I think it's a very common feeling. However, once the baby is here, I know we'll just have to find a way to make it work and I'm sure we'll love it, once we settled into having two kids. Go wiggle!

I regularly let me kid eat food off the floor. She throws things around and instead of getting new food I just pick it up and put it back on her plate.

My kid is obsessed with bugs. I left a dead bug on our porch for a few days becuase she was obsessed with looking at it.

@barefoot84 no how mean! Actually emery did that when we tried the 3 day method. Panic and tears and trauma. But there is no way in hell I'd let my parents dictate what I do with my kid. I'd kill someone. But i am confrontational. My mom tried pressuring me and guilting me to push her and I ignored her. I'm glad I did. 2 months later em decided she likes peeing on the potty now. Except she just doesn't want to tell me about it. She just wants to be free to go. No more anxiety or tears. Anyway, that was ranty but it made me sad for your kid.

Muahahahaha I like all the bug related FCs.

Emery hates bugs. She flips out. I don't flip out so I don't even know why she reacts that way it's absolutely ridiculous. BUT i found a new trick. When she does that lovely throw herself on the floor tantrum thing out in public I say "Ew there is a spider by your head!" And she jumps up so effing quick. Like in a split second! Buahahaha haha

no more lifting a 40lbs sack of concrete off the floor.

I needed to ::ahem:: groom before my OB appointment, so I hopped in the shower while Em was playing in the hall. She came in and asked what I was doing. I told her I was shaving. She asked for the razor, and when I said no, she thrust her pelvis out and said, "I save my bottom too!!" Luckily I distracted her with soap bubbles.

That evening she saw the razor when her dad was in there peeing and asked for it. He of course said no, and a huge tantrum ensued with her smacking at her diaper and saying she needed to "save her bottom." He was so confused.

@barefoot84 - I understand being nonconfrontational, but girl, you have to say something! This is your baby, not theirs. She's trying to tell you she's not ready, and you are her advocate. Don't let them push you around.

I will do almost anything to keep the peace, especially with family, but it is a different story when it comes to my kids. Mama bear comes out, and I will not be pushed to do something I don't think is right with my kid. Just blame it on being pregnant

My FC: I didn't realize I was supposed to have already broken the swaddle with D (4 mos old). We swaddled T until he was too big for it - maybe that was some of our sleep problems...hmmmm...

My kids wanted to eat on the back porch for lunch and my first reaction was no it's too hotttttttt! But then I saw that my South African neighbor was out mowing his lawn [ETA: shirtless!] and I decided it wasn't a bad plan after all. He, too, is hottttttt.

LO got a tricycle for her birthday last week. She loves it but I cannot get her to wear the helmet. Instead of wrestling it on her head I push her around with out a helmet.

I confronted my parents on the potty training issue again, and I think I made "some" progress. They still disagree with me and they said some crazy stuff, but my mother finally got upset and said, "Well, it sure isn't going to work with your attitude", so maybe we'll be able to go back to diapers. She has a diaper on now, so that's a small victory. We'll see how it goes later on today.

Oh, and among the stuff they said, was "Those women on that forum are all lying to you, and no child will go willingly on the potty. They're not even real women." Sorry laides, I guess you're my new imaginary friends, but I'm so glad to have you.

@barefoot84 - Good for you! I'm so glad you said something! Kids really will go to the potty when they're ready, and you're a great mom for hearing her tell you she's not and standing up for her.

Switch out Facebook for J12, and this fits the situation perfectly. We'll be your imaginary friends anytime!

The dog was a stray so it is a name that was given to her recently. I'll get over it, because DH isn't sold on it, but why couldn't she just call her more of a dog name? Lol
