Picky eater

I'm a very picky eater. I basically eat like a 12 year old. But obviously, I want to eat healthy for the baby.

Any suggestions on simpke healthy food or anyone else a picky eater?

Re: Picky eater

  • Eat your veggies; eat real food aka stay away from too much processed food, if soemthing has a million ingredients and half of them are giant chemical sounding words you can't pronounce, you probably shouldn't eat it; eat local organic meat/dairy if you can; try not too eat all the sugar and salt ever! :)

  • What kinds of things do you actually like to eat? I would find ways to just make those things healthier in general. Example, if you love to eat pizza, make or buy a whole wheat dough and make your own with healthy toppings/veggies.

Try roasting vegetables, it brings out great flavor and maybe you'll be more likely to eat them.

Here's a recipe for carrot soup that I like to make.

I'm not a big carrot fan but I think it's delicious. I double the recipe and we make a meal out of it with some crusty bread. I alter the recipe a bit, personally (add garlic, don't bother with the dill; simply cover the veggies with chicken stock and keep all the broth instead of throwing anything out).

What she said! (As I fill my face with Doritos)

What flavor Doritos? I haven't had them in months and they're my fav. Now I'm dreaming of them.

  • Green smoothies are a good way to get lots of healthy foods and nutrients in your diet without having to taste them. I make one with ice, milk, kale/chard/spinach, a banana, almonds and whatever fruit is lying around. It tastes like a banana to me, but I'm still getting lots of green veggies in my diet this way.

Granted, I haven't been able to stomach one for at least a week now, but theoretically I should be drinking them.

  • I will say if you are feeling nauseous, now is the time to eat whatever stays down. If it gets better later, you can try to add some healthier food. I find soups are a good way to add veggies.

  • The smoothies sound like something I could try. I really don't eat any veggies so any way to add in the health benefits without actually eating them, I will try
  • Omg thank you for this post! I also eat like a 12 year old... Actually more like 8. Thanks for the tips mentioned. I actually really like the green smoothie drinks from Odwalla. Tastes like juice but has a bunch of veggies I would normally never touch ;)

  • I'm vegan which in itself probably = picky eater to most people.  Look up some vegan recipes if you want really simple meals without a lot of processed ingredients - you can always add meat if you want.

  • Ditto the others, stay away from processed foods. I was a nanny for a mom who was a picky eater before her baby was born, but she began trying all the fruits and vegetables she was preparing for her baby and realized that she liked a lot of them! Maybe this will work for you.
  • Smoothies! Throw spinach in with fruit and you'll get lots of vitamins and nutrients without having to eat veggies plain. Also, snack smart! Almonds, granola, yogurt, cheese, etc...
  • Veggies plain is my problem. Now if they all tasted like chocolate!

  • I grab about a weeks worth of fruits that I wash and cut up all at once and snack on that throughout the day seems to fill my sweets void that I can't quite stomach at the moment. I'm super into fried corn... On everything. Broccoli is better roasted for sure with some salt and garlic even some lemon. Pinterest has been a lifesaver for me (and bagel bites and Cheerios and Burger King.... Mmmm Burger King )
  • Along with being nauseous, I'm now a picky eater. My 7 year old eats better than me. I tried to cut up veggies with dip...no go. Fruit (my favorite) no go. Hamburgers and fries..,yes please!
