How often does your EBF baby poop?

edited July 2014 in April 2014 Moms
How long in between poops? Roughly. What's the longest they've gone without popping?

Edit to add another option.... But that's not an option... lol

    Every day...sometimes 2-3 times, 3 months old

  • He poops daily...but before he was on Prevacid it was every 2-3 days. When he was a bit older, DS1 would sometimes go a week between poops. Normal!

  • @strawberrytree‌ how old? My baby is 4 months going about 5 days or so. I've read it's normal, heard its normal, but it just seems so unnatural to me.
  • I said daily but occasionally he'll go 1.5-2 days between poops. He's 3 months

  • So. Many. Poops.

She's still at about 4x per day. I'm fine with it, though. I'd rather have that than an up to the armpits poopsplosion every 4 days.

I want to say 6 months ish? Breast milk is so easy for them to digest that there sometimes isn't anything left over.

Typically about once a day now, but two weeks ago it was 3 times a day, and then he went on a poop strike for a solid week.  We ended the week with a 'bang' so to speak..... followed by lots of baths.
  • usually 2-3 times a day but has gone as long as 6 days between poops.

  • I thought it was supposed to slow down... 3.5 months and at least 4 poops per day. DD was the same though.
  • At least 5 times a day, sometimes up to 10.
  • For awhile she only pooped once a week, then suddenly she reverted back to several times a day for a couple of weeks. Now we are back to once or twice a day.

Every 4 days or so. Each of my babies has been different. DD2 regularly went over a week between poops.

    Its never very much, either.
    What did your doctor say?
  • 2-3 times a day.
  • Every 3-4 days at almost 4 months.

E once went 15 days with no poop. Went to the pedi twice during that time and his deduction was that she was just taking in exactly what she needed and her body was putting it to use so there was no waste. She was happy, tummy was soft and bowel sounds were normal. Eventually she went. Even now she poops about once or twice a week.

What do they do to come to the conclusion everything is ok? Her tummy is soft, she seems fine, a little more fussy today I suppose but not inconsolable. Her farts stink bad. Sleeping through the night. Idk. Starting to get worried, waiting for a call back from the doc.
  • He usually goes 1x/day, but sometimes he skips a day and sometimes he goes multiple times. He likes to keep me guessing haha

  • My 3.5 month old was going every 3-4 days. For the last week hrs been going 3-4 times per day! Neon green too! Pretty!!!
  • 1-2 times a day, maybe more? I eat a lot of raw greens though, spinach, kale. Needless to say LO's poop is more often green hued than not.
  • Every time she eats, she poops right after and is hungry again - it is a vicious cycle.
  • 5-7 days -- we are on day 7 of no poop ... But when it does happen it's a mess. I wish he would go more often.
  • I picked 3 days because I think that's where we're at right now, but I really need the SS option for this one. I think I've experienced all the options with DD so far. We've gone from after every feeding to once a week to every 4/5 days to once a day to wherever we are right now.

  • I said every 4 days because that seems to be his new thing as of last week. he used to poop multiple times a day and then all of a sudden he went from thurs - mon without pooping. now he hasn't pooped in 3 days....I hope he does today! I don't like it when he doesn't poop!

I should also note, although LO is almost EBF, he does get maybe one formula bottle a day or every other day since my supply has been dropping off :/

  • Longest DS has gone without pooping was 6 days. I sort of think that the cause was related to me eating a banana everyday but who knows.

We're EBF and it is common for babies not to poop often because breast milk leaves little waste behind. It drove me bonkers though.

DD poops after almost every feeding. She's 12 weeks and eats every 2-3 hours.

  • It was every five days. But the last four days we have gotten a poop, so maybe its changing.
