AW: Counting from 1-10!

I am not able to post much these days, but I definitely have to be proud of Chloe for being able to count from 1-10!  She also knows most of the ABC song/letters and is a total chatterbox these days.  My ultimate favorite phrase these days is "I love you too mommy!"  It melts my heart every time!! :)

Anyone else having any cool milestones to share?

Way to go! I know counting to ten is a preschool skill :)

Funny ABC story: I used to sing the abc song to A to calm him as I took his temp rectally. Then DH pointed out that he's going to start making some weird associations with that song if I keep it up. Now, the rare times I take any rectal temps on the boys, I switch up the songs ;)

Also (says the preschool SLP in me), rote counting - memorizing and reciting the numbers in order - isn't nearly as important a one-to-one correspondence. So, if you're working on counting, make sure you're counting things and touching as you count :)

  • I'm excited that mine is reciting simple nursery rhymes and "singing" little songs. She's got her shapes and colours down, counts to 15, and knows only the alphabets where upper and lower case look alike. I've been holding out introducing the rest - seems complicated to explain that R can also be r etc, but maybe I'm under-estimating them. We're not doing so well on the puzzle front though, she just gets frustrated.
  • Reading these makes me giggle and happy to know that our LOs are growing up far too quickly!  Chloe also likes to tell me the colors of things like some of your LOs too.

@versed I hold up my fingers and put them down one by one as she touches them and counts.  She thinks it's so funny because once we are finished, I wiggle them toward her and tickle her.  This is usually my go to stall when trying to get her to use the potty.  It helps pass the time. :)

  • Tumaini counts 1-2, and that's about it. Some days, it'll be 1, 2 and 5. The alphabet is a foreign concept, even if we look at letters when we read. Also, the only color she knows is blue, and while she sometimes "sings" we have no idea what she's singing.

But she's climbing and jumping like crazy. This week, she loves to play at jumping further and further and she has learned how to blow bubbles. Also, her vocabulary is expanding day to day, though she's nowhere near where some of your  kids are.

It's amazing the progress they're making and how fast they're learning!
