Lightheaded - *update*

Yesterday and today I have been extremely lightheaded off and on, as well as exhausted. I know some of this can be normal (especially the exhaustion) but I am starting to get a little concerned with the constant lightheaded feeling. I am planning on calling my doctor in the morning, but in the meantime, to ease my worries, are any of you experiencing this? (I am anemic, but I am on iron pills, and my blood pressure has been on the low side of good at every visit.)

Update: I was finally able to get some answers today. The doctor said the lightheadedness is likely a result of a combination of factors in my case: low blood pressure, anemia (that often gets worse in late pregnancy), and the normal increased blood volume in pregnancy. She advised me (in addition to taking my pills) to eat something with protein every two hours, make sure I was staying out of the heat and hydrated, and to get up slowly and avoid bending over. Other than that, she said just to take it easy and soldier through it for the last few weeks. Thanks for your advice and thoughts!

  • Definitely update us when you find out what's going on!

I've definitely experienced a spike in exhaustion. The only lightheadedness that makes me a little uneasy happens right when I lie down (on either side), but after a few seconds subsides. Probably my blood flow readjusting.

Since your lightheadedness is constant though that is troubling. Good luck and fx everything's okay!

  • I know sometimes if your BP is too low you are at a risk for fainting, hopefully that isn't it.

Have you been eating enough? Are you hydrated? I get this feeling occasionally but it usually happens if I get up too quickly or haven't had a snack in a while.

Update us when you get some answers. I hope you feel better!

  • Thanks! I know hydration is not the issue because I drink a lot, and I've been eating a normal amount. It may be worth getting my blood pressure checked to see if it may have gotten too low for some reason.

  • I was very lightheaded and weak yesterday, but my bp is normal so I attributed it to the heat and baby squishing my diaphragm

  • I had that happen yesterday morning before work. I was fine when I got up, went for a walk, showered and dressed, and ate breakfast. So I know it wasn't because I was hungry or dehydrated. I had a Dr appt in the afternoon, and he didn't seem too concerned. My BP has been low, but I've had quite a bit of swelling and he thought it might just be a shift in fluids.
I'd be interested to hear what you find out in your case. Good luck!
  • I'll be thinking of you.  I actually had been having trouble with this.  I was having "spells" where I feel really light headed, dizzy, nasuous, and hot flashy.  It certainly is not fun.  I even had a lunch date with my dad that I cut short and went to L &D because I couldn't shake the feeling and I felt really off. However everything seemed to check out fine. BP was 120/85 so good and baby was fine.  They did ask when my last meal was and what it was....I had a piece of banana bread before lunch and hadn't eaten since.  It was about an hour after my breakfast. .....

Sooo they asked if I thought it happened after I had a meal...and I think it may correlate.  And depending on what I eat.  My doctor will be re checking me for GD....or looking at the possibility of it.  I've been trying to eat less carbs (which I love) and more proteins and frequent snacking. Its "sorta" working,

Try to find out if you feel worse about an hour after eating a pasta meal vs like a boiled egg and cheese. I'll be seeing my doc next thursday unless he asks to see me sooner and Ill check back in! Let me know what they think and try the food thing....it may be possible your were borderline GD and now its starting to creep up on you. Hope not for the both of us! good luck!
