Cloth Diapering

Help with fitted's and Wool covers.

So I narrowed my stash down to what I liked the best, TT's, Cutesy Cloth, and Rumparooz. Now I'm debating about selling off the rumparooz as well to fund more TT's.
My question is, if I do that I'll have to get some covers for overnight and nap time, which would be best? Wool or PUL? I'm leaning towards wool because I've heard great things like it's more breathable, more absorbant, etc. But does it feel damp on the outside?
I'm worried because I have a super heavy wetter, DS can't go longer than 45mins to an hour cover less in his TT's.
Also how does the wool process work? I've heard that you don't have to wash it often? How do you lanolize?
I have switched to using cloth safe detergent but I do still dry on low heat (wool dryer balls now, no more dryer sheets), so can wool covers be dried as well on low heat or will they shrink?
PUL I think would be easier but DS gets heat rash pretty easy so I'm worried about overheating and comfort.
Last questions, how many would I need? And what are your favorites?

You might want to edit this post to include wool in the title. Lure in those wool lovers.

  • Thank you @AFwifelife‌ where do you buy your lanolizing supplies? What is eucalan?

Anybody buy their wool covers from WAHM? I like to support them if I can.
  • @AFwifelife‌ I use the rumparooz with double hemp inserts, which I know are PUL but a fitted with a PUL cover just seemed to me like more bulk=more heat. Good to know that wouldn't be a problem. :)

I still think I want to try wool, it just sounds interesting/better?

I liked your idea though! Did it anyway :)
  • As long as you are using something absorbent enough on the inside, wool isn't damp on the outside.  Wool is extremely easy to take care of IMO.  After the initial prep, washing is as simple as soaking in the sink, squeezing the water out, and air drying (adding extra lanolin if necessary after it's dry).

My wash routine is the following:  Run the sink on super hot water. Once it's hot, plug sink and squeeze Lansinoh lanolin in bottom of sink (at least 1/2 inch - more if you are lanolizing the first time). Fill the sink a little with hot water and swish lanolin into water.  Turn sink to lukewarm to continue filling up.  Add about 1/2 capful (I don't actually measure) of Eucalan to water as it fills, swishing everything together.  Submerge wool and let soak at least 30 minutes, but I usually leave it all day.  Carefully press water out of wool when done soaking then roll between two towels to get more water out.  Air dry.

I only wash my wool about once a month (or more often if poop escapes - spot clean with a wool wash bar to get poop out).  My covers are upcycled sweaters that I felted in the wash (hot wash then dried on hot) so I could technically run them through the wash but I don't find hand washing them difficult at all.

PUL is breathable though so I wouldn't shy away from it just for fear of heat rash.  What are you currently using now for ON? If it's the FB, you are already using PUL....
I would love to know how you made your covers. might not be the right forum but if you could PM me that would be awesome
